The Azure Monitoring team within PIE is looking for a passionate engineer to design and implement parts of the next generation of our monitoring and diagnostics services. Monitoring includes all telemetry, logs, traces, metrics, alerts, data visualization and is at the heart of every online service, and the overall product is responsible for building a highly scalable and reliable world class telemetry solution for both the entire company and all Azure customers. We’re at over 50 peta-bytes of daily data and growing. Joining the Azure Monitoring team is a fantastic opportunity to work with talented engineers at the heart of growth in the cloud, and help us deliver on the next set of big challenges critical for Microsoft’s growth.
This position will involve implementing the next generation of our Agents, which collect, process, and upload the data that feeds the rest of the monitoring services. We’re re-envisioning our codebase to be based on more industry standard OSS designs, which will better meet our customers where they’re at, and improve performance and functionality. You will get to learn and work on mission critical components that need to be highly performant and reliable, and get exposure to key systems programming concepts and modern services.

Bachelor’s or higher degree in computer science, or related field
3+ years of software engineering experience
Solid design and coding skills
Demonstrated team player
Desire to work on highly performant C++ systems software and in a service paced environment
Experience working on systems software (e.g. Operating systems, Databases, tools)
Exposure to popular monitoring packages (e.g. Fluent, Logstash)
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
