Microsoft Corporation Principal Software Engineering Manager in Redmond, Washington

The Cloud Hardware & Infrastructure Engineering team is responsible for definition, design and development of Server and Rack Infrastructure engineering for Microsoft's online services (Azure / Bing). We work closely with Microsoft product engineering groups, industry partners and researchers to architect and develop cutting edge server hardware solutions that meet the requirements for our cloud services platforms at the lowest possible cost of ownership (TCO).

Responsibilities

Role & Opportunity: This role is for a highly motivated leader who has the technical chops and thought leadership to build reliable and scalable SW systems and services. Strong background in design and development at all layers of Operating Systems required. Experience in Software Security protocols, cloud services and/or Firmware development is a strong plus. You will be involved in all phases of product development, from design through productization, and deployment. You will lead the architecture, design, development of solutions at multiple layer of the stack, including driver interface development, device configuration, protocols, application, and cloud service development.

The candidate should have people / team management skills, strong design, coding skill, debugging, and troubleshooting abilities, with experience in leading and driving development in either Linux Kernel or Windows Kernel. The successful candidate should have experience with some or all the following: protocol development, driver development, Windows OS development, yocto, network sockets, platform initialization, peripherals interfaces such as PCIe, I2C, eMMC, SPI, USB, UARTs. OS primitives, memory management, scheduling, interrupts requests, threading, and synchronization.

  • 8+ years of professional experience designing, developing cutting edge technology and software solutions

  • 3+ years of professional experience leading / managing engineering teams

  • Experience in setting priorities and managing schedules

  • Proven and demonstrable skill in C, C++, or Java. Experience with GIT or Visual Studio.

  • Experienced with driver, system services and security development

  • Familiar with PCIe , I2C, SPI, USB and UART buses

  • Ability to debug and resolve issues spanning multiple subsystems and across different layers of software.

  • Strong problem solving, debugging, and troubleshooting skills, advanced design, and development skills

  • MS in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent industry experience
