Microsoft Corporation Principal Software Engineer in Redmond, Washington

Azure is the growth engine for Microsoft with Compute as the foundation of Azure. This position is in the Compute Platform Team. We build the core cloud objects and APIs that enable the full spectrum of applications running on Cloud from the largest enterprises to individual developers. Our objects include Virtual Machines, Virtual Machine Scale Sets, Managed Disks, Images, Shared Gallery and others. The services run at a very large scale in all regions of the world. Our customers rely on the Compute Platform to run their workloads and businesses.


In this role, you will be owning the fundamentals and quality areas of the Compute Platform. You will come up with innovation, automation, metrics, tooling, and best practices to significantly improve the live-site posture of Compute. You will be data driven with metrics and leverage our data/machine learning teams to model the incidents, response rates, mitigations and root causes. You will deeply partner with component teams in Core Azure to engineer better services informed by the live-site learnings. This is an individual contributor hands-on role with opportunity to influence and deliver broad impact.


Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, building multiple software services and evolving them

  • Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) and DevOps experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience designing and shipping distributed services

  • Leadership collaboration, problem solving and analytical skills

  • Demonstrated experience in the areas of security, scale and reliability

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or related discipline, OR equivalent industry experience

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check. This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
