Microsoft Corporation Principal Group Program Manager in Redmond, Washington

As the Principal Group Program Manager for the Managed Workspaces Team, you will have the opportunity to be at the center of and influence our industry’s Digital Transformation.

Core Platform Engineering is part of the Core Services Engineering (CSE) team - our goal is to boldly pursue big ideas that power transformational advancements at Microsoft, while helping Microsoft employees work smarter, faster, and more securely every day. We are technology leaders with deep technical experts, focused on digital transformation and enabling our stakeholders.

Managed Workspaces team is responsible for managing key on-prem and cloud compute, storage and networking services critical for Microsoft’s engineering users and systems worldwide hosted in product engineering labs, corporate datacenters and Microsoft Technology Centers. Our computing nodes are rapidly changing within our hosted environments. It ranges from traditional servers to modern devices like mobile, tablets, gaming consoles, GPU clusters, embedded and IoT devices. Increasing diversity of our ecosystem has made it more challenging for our customers to consume modern computing on-demand through consistent set of services and processes. Managed Workspaces team is chartered to deliver cutting edge experiences across our hosted ecosystem . Experiences such abstracted hybrid provisioning , intelligent manageability and telemetry , advanced security and OS management , GDPR and Accessibility compliant self-service experiences and APIs . As part of the Enterprise Managed workspaces team, the ideal candidate will own delivering cutting edge software services for this large portfolio which includes understanding and delivering against scenarios from the traditional on-premise, modern devices and cloud services to move us firmly in the direction of hybrid cloud management . This is a unique opportunity to join the bedrock team that is driving digital transformation across a core part of CPE portfolio and help build the digital footprint to lead other enterprises onto our cloud. With more than 80% of medium to large enterprises yet to adopt cloud services , this an exciting opportunity to be in the front and center of this key disruptive transformation

We are looking for a seasoned program management leader who has experience and passion to develop innovative, scalable, resilient and secure software solutions and services. Deliver reusable software components built on Azure native services, VMM, Azure Stack, AMS, Windows and SQL server with cross OS (Windows, Azure, IoS, MAC, Android) compatibility. Self-service modern UIs using React and Material-UI framework that is both Microsoft Accessibility standards compliant and modular in nature. Advanced security posture using AAD and MSAL (Microsoft Authentication Libraries) to allow seamless integration and authentication across work and personal accounts. A modern scalable API architecture to allow programmatic integration and use of hosting services.


As Group Program Manager, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Strategic Leadership : You will own the charter for managed workspaces, developing our business and product strategy. Your goal will be to identify and grow business opportunities that delight our customers with reliable and performant hybrid cloud management.

  • Partner Engagement : You will establish and manage strategic partnerships inside and outside of the company.

  • Team Leadership : You will manage and inspire a talented and diverse group of PMs and PM Leads. You will help them develop and learn as they grow their careers.

  • Planning and Execution : Ability to think holistically and strategically. Proven ability to plan, organize, and manage complex technical products concurrently across multiple feature areas.

  • Data Driven : Skilled at using masses of customer data to draw insights, answer hard questions, and guide actions.

  • Communication : Able to conduct insightful conversations with senior business and technical decision makers inside and outside Microsoft. Communicate complex ideas to others in a clear, effective and motivating manner.

  • Collaboration : Generous collaborator, able to work effectively across broad teams and influence stakeholders of all levels and of all disciplines across Microsoft.

  • Cultural Leadership : Ability and passion to lead cultural initiatives, having positive impact on team morale and fostering an environment of inclusion.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent

  • 15+ years of software development experience

  • Proven competency in strategic leadership, organizational agility, cross-team collaboration, drive for results, and written and verbal communications

  • Strong project management and people management skills

  • Experience in building cloud and on-prem services

  • Highly self-driven with an ability to work very independently

  • Experience leading complex software projects over multiple releases in a matrixed environment

  • Ability to quickly pick up new technologies and industry trends

  • Excellent communication skills that can provide clarity to audiences that include customers, peers and executive leadership

  • Inherently curious, energized by large challenges, and interested in making a significant impact on a globally scaled business

  • Thrives in ambiguity
