Director - Financial Data Management

The Corporate Financial Planning and Analysis team (CFP&A) is responsible for Microsoft’s overall planning and analysis, forecasting, budgeting, and executive reporting of total company financial performance.

CFP&A is looking for a highly motivated and experienced Director, who has excellent organizational and leadership skills and a strong interest in developing the long term vision of how Microsoft manages financial data structures. This role will develop the long term vision for how finance will manage data to support both statutory and management reporting, as well as partner with other Microsoft functions on data management strategy. The role will be responsible for implementing best in class methods of managing master data, leading key projects related to data management and tools/systems strategy, modernizing data management while maintaining compliance, and work closely with both statutory reporting, management reporting and analytical teams across the finance organization to drive solutions.

This Director role manages a team which acts as the center of excellence for Microsoft finance for establishing governance frameworks, providing best practices, developing training resources and conducting deep analysis on financial data and data structure issues. The team continuously interacts with representatives from Sales and Marketing, Engineering, Supply Chain, Services, and other corporate organizations to anticipate future needs of Microsoft financial data structures including hierarchies, allocations, master data, and the SAP Code Block.

Responsibilities

This management position will lead a team of capable, dedicated individuals who govern a broad set of structure – master data, hierarchies, allocations, logic tables to ensure accuracy of reporting while, at the same time, educating Finance on financial structure topics via a variety of vehicles. The position engages a company-wide network of contacts through cross group collaboration and involves resolving real time challenges Microsoft faces in producing world class financial insight. The successful candidate should demonstrate a proven track record in directing the work of others, an ability and desire to manage through competing priorities, successful project and change management skills, and executive maturity.

As the leader of this team, you will be chartered with ensuring Microsoft has the resources to maintain accurate and robust financial data structures. You will play a leadership role in developing new strategies for data management, as well as measuring, monitoring and addressing gaps in the company’s performance in this area. You will drive transformational projects with multiple stakeholders and work together to ensure a unified and aligned approach to finance master data management. You will address hard trade-offs in finding internal flexibility for management reporting while ensure external reporting consistency.

  • Experience with Financial Statement preparation preferred.

  • Knowledge of Master Data Management, Data Stewardship and Governance highly preferred.

  • BS/BA degree required; MS, MBA or equivalent a plus.

  • Strong ability and expertise to work with data from Microsoft’s financial systems (i.e. Mercury, MS Sales, MS People), policies and tools.

  • 10+ years’ experience in Finance, Accounting, Audit, or Business Analysis.
