Azure Production Infrastructure Engineering (PIE) team is hiring a data scientist to help us create an intelligent cloud system that learns from all the Azure operational data and makes Azure operation fully automated with minimal human effort to achieve the highest level of reliability and efficiency.
Azure PIE team is responsible for providing all the foundational systems and tools to build, operate, and support entire Azure and many Microsoft Cloud Services. These systems and tools include engineering pipelines, deployment, incident management, change management, monitoring, automation framework, data analytics, etc. Many of these products serve both internal Microsoft engineers and external Azure users. As Azure continues to grow rapidly in scale and complexity, we are investing heavily in AI/ML space to revolutionize how we manage and operate Azure by building intelligence into every part of our service infrastructure. For example, from all the monitors and incident data, how can our system automatically predict a customer impacting outage and prevent it from happening? When outage happens, how to automatically identify the root cause, correlate different services' impact and apply mitigation to minimize the customer impact?
As a data scientist in Azure PIE, you will have vast amount of data to analyze and work with. Working with a variety of Azure teams closely, you will combine their domain knowledge with the data and generate insights to help improve Azure reliability, engineering efficiency, and supportability. Based on the learnings, you will also create metrics, algorithms, and solutions that can make high confidence decisions and recommendations. Once these solutions are validated, you will work with engineering teams to integrate them into production systems and build scalable pipelines to continuously improve. Build data pipelines including components for data ingestion, integration, cleansing, and transformation
Design and implement visualization dashboards
Perform feature engineering using text mining, data mining, and domain knowledge
Perform descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive analytics
Write technical reports
Distill domain knowledge by working with subject matter experts
Collaborate with product managers, engineering teams, and end users
Master’s degree majored in STEM (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics)
4+ years of fulltime industry experience
2+ years of fulltime industry experience in Data Engineering, Analytics, Data Science, or AI/ML
Outstanding ability of programming with SQL, R/Python, or equivalent languages
Outstanding ability of building data pipelines on a big-data platform
Fluency in a range of statistical analysis and data visualization techniques
Experience in machine learning, data mining, and optimization
Experience in design of experiments, hypothesis testing, and causal inference
Ability to synthesize complex issues/scenarios into easy-to-understand concepts
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrated ability in solving problems under uncertainty
Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate with stakeholders, including effective prioritization, clear communication, and delivery of actionable insights
The most successful candidates will possess the ability to learn or design new techniques from literature and apply them to the business problems
