Microsoft Corporation Consultant - CTJ in Redmond, Washington

To further our commitment to the open source community, Microsoft Consulting Services is seeking experienced open source developers to serve as consultants to support our customers in developing and implementing custom software solutions.

As a Consultant you will have the opportunity to build leading edge technology solutions and to deploy them into production with real world impact. You will help our customer accelerate their transformation towards digital organizations. Consultants are responsible for the end-to-end application development lifecycle providing guidance, assistance, and technical leadership to development teams that are deploying solutions using the latest development tools and methodologies. You will work with experienced developers to ensure customers have the skills to develop, deploy and maintain their solution. The Consultant role will give you the chance to be the trusted advisor to our customer developers, architects, and key decision makers. You won't be executing projects on your own, you will have the entire Microsoft technical ecosystem behind you and supporting you.


As a Consultant, you will:

  • Be part of a thriving developer practice that's constantly looking for ways to improve our customers' experience, software development goals, and use of cloud technology.

  • Write code on projects that solve customers' most difficult business problems.

  • Work with customers to identify business requirements.

  • Architect and implement innovative solutions using the most recent technologies.

  • Continually learn and grow professionally.

Mentor other Consultants to share your knowledge and experience.


Experienced open source developers with demonstrated knowledge and experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Open source development languages (e.g. Java, JavaScript, NodeJS, PHP, Python)

  • Designing and deploying Native Cloud Infrastructure, leveraging Containers, Kubernetes and Serverless technologies from Microsoft, popular Open Source technologies (OSS), or 3rd party services.

  • Design and implementation of modern web services and web apps using REST, SOAP, XML/JSON, Angular, NodeJS, and Spring.

  • Development experience with open source Java EE application servers such Tomcat, WildFly, JBoss, Glassfish or Jetty.

  • Building CI/CD pipelines using open source tools such as GIT, Maven, Jenkins, Ansible, Terraform, Chef, or Puppet

  • Application Lifecycle Management (e.g. Agile, SCRUM, TFS)

  • OSS DevOps (e.g. Spinnaker, Ansible, CHEF)

  • Open source operating systems/environments (e.g. Linux, FreeBSD, OpenBSD)

  • Supporting complex development projects targeting a variety of form factors and environment (e.g. Mobile, IoT, enterprise)

  • Data systems (e.g. Cosmo DB, MySQL, MongoDB, and Hadoop)

  • Contributing to open source projects, shared code repositories, and/or personal projects, including written contributions to the development community (blogs, Stack Overflow, Quora, slack, etc.)

  • Ability to ramp and learn on the Microsoft development stack

The successful candidate must have an active U.S. Government Secret Security Clearance and be able to obtain a DoD clearance at the level sought by our customers when required for the role. Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. Failure to maintain or obtain the appropriate clearance and/or customer screening requirements may result in employment action up to and including termination.
