Microsoft Corporation Business Program Manager in Redmond, Washington

Microsoft Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO+I) is the engine that powers Microsoft's cloud services. The team is responsible for designing, building and operating our unified global datacenters; managing the demand planning and capacity utilization of our unified infrastructure; and all the operations needed to run the physical infrastructure (including supply chain, hardware, power, security, and workflow teams). We focus on smart growth with an emphasis on automation, data driven engineering, cost-effectiveness and environmental sustainability.

We deliver the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's over 200 online businesses including Bing, Office 365, Xbox Live, Skype, OneDrive and the Microsoft Azure platform. Our infrastructure is comprised of a large global portfolio of more than 100 datacenters and 1 million servers. Our portfolio is built and managed by a team of subject matter experts working 24x7x365 to support services for more than 1 billion customers and 20 million businesses in over 90 countries worldwide.

Within CO+I, Edge Site Operations (ESO) manages Microsoft’s production datacenter edge sites worldwide. Our mission is to deliver trustworthy and reliable cloud services through safe, flawless, and efficient operation of our global datacenters. Other within CO+I include Cloud Operations Platform Services, Datacenter Services, Learning & Development, Operations Services, Physical Security, Safety & Risk, Sales Enablement, and Standards & Infrastructure Programs.

The role of Edge Site Operations Business Program Manager will, in collaboration with other partner teams, participate in the management of the datacenter lifecycle for our edge sites and act as a liaison to build consensus with partner teams to take ownership of required tasks/timelines including, creating, documenting and standardizing each team’s processes. Along with establishing proper handoff procedure, ‘go forward’ approvals, change management and communications to capture and produce a repeatable, dependable and standardized process for edge site lifecycle management.

Responsibilities

  • Establish communications, build trust and close-knit working relationships with the cross-organization teams involved in Edge Site Operations

  • Enable regional operations teams in process definition, documentation and standardization to achieve operational efficiency goals and expected key results

  • Meet budgeting, forecasting and related fiscal timelines for edge site activities to achieve fiscal management goals

  • Foster and enable a One Microsoft environment of collaboration and inclusion, where teams and individuals can build on the accomplishments of others, learn from one another, fail fast and improve process.

  • Create and maintain regular cadence for communications, internal and cross-organization team meetings, progress reporting, issue documentation, resolution and overall progress.

  • Drive short, medium and long-range strategic objectives for the Edge Site Operations organization with regular status, semester planning, and operational excellence to ensure key results for the objectives are realized

  • Identify opportunities and establish success criteria with measurable metrics for achieving operational efficiency

  • Provide business analysis & support in mapping and maintain the end to end network lifecycle

  • Drive operational excellence & efficiency tactics across the organization.

  • Build consensus among teams with differing opinions and motivations.

  • Assign, drive and track accountability for tasks and timelines.

Qualifications

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least four years’ experience managing physical operations in an IT, Network or Critical Environment infrastructure

  • At least four years’ experience working across teams, collaborating and motivating a diverse, technical workforce

  • At least two years’ experience managing complex projects across diverse geological locations

  • Willingness to work flexible hours, non-core business hours, or other scenarios required by rhythm of the business

  • Strong problem-solving skills, analytical capabilities, data analysis and attention to detail

  • Strong verbal and written communication and organization skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Enterprise-level experience in managing large-scale and complex projects/programs

  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute multiple tasks and projects in a dynamic and high-pressure environment

  • Working knowledge of audit and compliance requirements in a large global enterprise

  • Financial Management experience and good business acumen

  • College degree in Network Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunications, or equivalent experience

  • CompTIA Network+ and/or CCNA Certifications

  • PMP, CAPM, or equivalent project management certification

  • ITIL v3 Foundation and/or Microsoft Operations Framework (MOF) Certifications
