DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES:NOTE: This position is 100% remote and based in North Carolina.This position is with the Learning Research .and.amp; Development Center (LRDC), a multi-disciplinary center for research to advance the science of learning by bringing together leading researchers in the cognitive, social, and educational sciences), and will be based in Charlotte, North Carolina.The full-time Research Lab Coordinator will work under the supervision of Dr. Diana Leyva at LRDC (Learning Research and Development Center, a multi-disciplinary center for research to advance the science of learning by bringing together leading researchers in the cognitive, social, and educational sciences). The successful candidate will have frequent contact with school principals, teachers, parents and their children in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg school district (NC), as well as research assistants at Davidson College. Targeted start date is August 1st, 2019.Responsibilities: The Research Lab Coordinator will participate in all aspects of the project, which aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a family literacy program called Food For Thought. Participants in the program include Latino kindergarten children and their parents. All children are Spanish/English bilingual growing up in low-income households. Opportunities to collaborate in journal publications are available. 75% of work will take place in Charlotte-Mecklenburg elementary schools, and 25% of work will take place in the lab at Davidson College. Charlotte does not have a good public transportation system. Therefore, the successful candidate should have a car and a driver.and.#39;s license. Compensation for mileage is part of the salary package.Primary responsibilities include:- Assessing children.and.#39;s academic skills- Coordinating participant recruitment in schools- Communicating with school principals, teachers and parents- Implementing the family literacy program in schools- Mentoring undergraduate research assistants- Setting up and maintaining operations of the project through general administrative duties- Data entry and analysisThis is a two-year full-time appointment but a commitment for only 1 year is also possible.
