WuXi AppTec Technical Operations Specialist Co-Op in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

The Technical Operations Specialist Co-Op will work cross functionally to implement efficiencies in our Cell Banking and Cell & Gene Therapy manufacturing areas. The individual will lead and support improvement projects that will increase efficiency that leverage our staff, equipment, materials and other resources in manufacturing. This individual will collaborate and coordinate with manufacturing area management in coordination with other support functions such as testing, supply chain, facilities, and quality assurance.

  • Lead and support initiatives around process improvements to increase performance that ensures products and services meet quality standards.

  • Measure and analyze manufacturing information and data for the purpose of developing and executing improved performance processes.

  • Work as a team member with both internal and external resources to plan and execute improvement projects.

  • Manage changes that have GXP impact including process, equipment, and facility changes through WuXi’s systems.

  • Present to upper levels of management.

  • Adhere to cGMP and all other Quality standards

  • Contributes to the overall operations and to the achievement of departmental goals

  • Perform job specific tasks in compliance with applicable Regulations, International Standards, and WuXi AppTec Policies and Standard Operating Procedures.

  • Thorough understanding of Good Laboratory Practices and Good Manufacturing Practices

  • Other duties as assigned

  • May be required to assist in other departments

Job Requirements:

Experience / Education

  • Pursuing Bachelors in Engineering or Science related field required

  • 1 to 2 years of experience required

  • Experience related to working in a cGMP environment required

  • Training/experience in manufacturing practices strongly preferred; Lean manufacturing experience desired

  • Must have strong communication and complex problem solving skills

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

  • Experience in aseptic processing techniques, culture of adherent and/or suspension cells. Experience in centrifugation, cell washing techniques, cell selection, transfection/transduction, filtration systems, tangential flow filtration, or chromatography.

  • Analytical focused: Experience in mammalian cell culture, molecular, virology, and/or biochemical characterization assays

  • Pursuing an Engineering or Business Degree. Preferably in Industrial Engineering or Industrial Management

  • Basic understanding of Lean and Continuous Improvement techniques/methodologies in the areas of Standardized Work, Kaizen, Problem-Solving, 5S, Value Stream Mapping, and Process Flow

  • Approachable and engaging manner with strong interpersonal and influencing skills

  • Capacity to communicate at all levels of the organization levels

  • Ability to effectively collect and analyze data

  • Proficient in Oral & Written communication skills

  • Need to be able to read, write and understand English

  • Proficient in Microsoft (Excel, Word, Outlook)

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to work in an office environment with minimal noise conditions.

  • Must be able to work in Lab setting with Biohazards /various Chemicals

  • Must be able to wear appropriate PPE

  • Must be able to work in environment with variable noise levels

  • Ability to stand /Sit/walk for long periods of time

  • Ability to Lift 10 lbs routinely

  • Ability to crouch, bend, twist, and reach

  • Ability to push/pull 10 lbs routinely/ often / occasionally

  • Clarity of Vision

  • Ability to identify and distinguish colors

  • Must be able to perform activities with repetitive motions

  • Ability to climb Ladders / Stairs / Scaffolding

  • Ability to work in variable temperatures high to freezing

  • Inside/outside working conditions
