Job Description Summary
The Instrument Sterilization Attendant is responsible for the decontamination, cleaning, identification, and assembly of all the dental instruments used throughout the Penn Dental Medicine clinics. The Attendant must be able to select the correct method of sterilization of instruments and will be required to learn how to operate the various types of sterilization equipment utilized in the department.
The Attendant will be cross trained to work in the Levy Research building to perform duties/tasks as required for sterilization of glassware and specified waste of the research labs. He/she will be expected to perform additional tasks associated with those assigned clinics as directed by the clinic manager as needed.
Additional responsibilities include:
Delivering and collecting instruments throughout the School of Dental Medicine.
Processing student instrument orders.
Issuing and collecting instrument supplies and laboratory equipment utilizing scanning equipment.
Keeping inventory of equipment moved to and from the various clinics in the School of Dental Medicine.
The Attendant will be required to work during preparations for the CDCA’s ADEX dental exam held during the academic year. Occasional weekend and/or overtime work required.
QualificationsAn Associate's degree or two year college equivalent preferred and 0 - 2 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
Dental or medical background helpful, but not required. Must be able to follow detailed oral and written instructions. Be able to multitask between responsibilities, to accurately complete assigned tasks in a fast-paced working environment.
Physical EffortMust be able to push/pull 300 lbs. and lift up to 50 lbs.
