Position Description :

Supports patient experience and delivery of patient through performance of technical tasks, patient preparation and patient/family communication. Supports physicians and nurse practitioners so that patient results are positive and representative of the core values of UPHS. Specific practice responsibilities include clinical assistance in busy procedural oriented practice. This position will be responsible for ensuring the practice is following all necessary JCAHO guidelines.

  • Triage calls and queries from sick patients and make appropriate recommendations for the level of urgency and care needed.

  • Administer Immunotherapy and biological therapy for allergic, asthmatic and immunological diseases as prescribed by the attending Allergist/ Immunologist or NP.

  • Administer vaccines.

  • Perform diagnostic skin testing under the supervision of the MD.

  • Perform medication/ food and biological challenges under the supervision of the MD

  • Educate patients with chronic conditions on the proper disease management which optimizes medical outcomes in conjunction with the MD.

  • Perform other allergy/immunology related testing as directed by the MD.

  • Assist in the preparation of the patient for their visits and patient education as part of a team of providers.

  • Interact with the entire Allergy/Immunology medical staff in a manner which promotes positive patient outcomes.

  • Act as a liaison between the patient and the MD or NP.

  • Perform duties which are consistent with good nursing practice in an Allergy/Immunology clinic setting.

  • Mix, dilute and prepare allergen extracts and biological therapies according to established medical and nursing guidelines.

  • Assist with medication prescriptions, patient school and work forms, prior authorizations for procedures and medications.

  • Be a patient advocate.

Perform non- invasive allergy testing procedures such as Spirometry, bronchospasm evaluations, Nitric Oxide breath tests, staining of nasal cytology slides.

Minimum Requirements :

Registered Nurse with active PA state licensure. BLS/CPR required. National or specialty based certification preferred. BSN degree from an accredited school of nursing with 15 months or more of relevant professional nursing experience required.
