Title: Special Education Para Educator Reports to: Special Education Teacher This position commences immediately for 6 hours per day Mon– Fri, 8:00 - 3:00 (one hour lunch). Salary to be determined by candidate’s years of service in the district. Candidate must meet federal certification standards. Instructional aide and special education experience preferred. Candidate must meet federal certification standards with either an AA Degree or the successful completion of the state assessment test. Completion of core competencies. Demonstrate proficiency in working with at-risk students, regardless of culture, age or special needs. Demonstrate skills in interpersonal communication both written and verbal. Demonstrate skill in working with a team. Demonstrate ability to maintain confidentiality. Willing to accept and implement constructive criticism. Capable of maintaining positive firm discipline with students. Demonstrate ability to follow specific lesson plans independently. Demonstrate ability to respect individual differences in students. Data entry skills/computer knowledge preferred. Performance Responsibilities: Treat personal knowledge of students and staff as confidential. Provide instructional support to students in accordance with teacher directions. Be positive when working with students, use praise to motivate students. Willing to consistently carry out classroom procedures. Document progress of students and other information as directed. Implement behavior management plan and classroom discipline procedures as directed by the teacher. Ability to develop rapport with at-risk students and their parents. Toileting, lifting, changing, feeding and providing other services depending on the needs of the students. Act as liaison between school and home as needed and directed by the teacher. Communicate and work successfully with a variety of people. Adapt and modify curriculum per teacher’s direction. Perform clerical/computer tasks that are needed for the program. Be familiar with special education and district policies and procedures. Promote student independence in school setting. Perform other tasks as reasonably requested by the teacher or special education director.
