Responsibilities

As a Business Administrator I you will be working for JPL's Earth Science Section supporting Earth scientists who conduct basic research employing end-to-end expertise in observations from multiple vantage points along with theoretical modeling to characterize and understand the atmosphere, land, cryosphere and oceans on our home planet, with an overarching goal of improving predictions of future changes.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Working with the Business Administrative Manager to coordinate the day-to-daybusiness operations which include, but not limited to processing personnel and servicerequisitions, processing postdoctoral appointments and other affiliate types, monitoring staffing transaction data, reviewing the utilization of facilities such as office space, laboratories and technical space, conducting annual safety and asset inventory reviews, processing section established business metrics and maintaining required compliance training records.

  • Conducting financial analysis which include detailed reviews of planned Costand Obligations, Plan vs. Actual and explanation of all variances on direct costaccounts within the section.

  • Developing and maintaining monthly performance cost reports for projects supportedby the section.

  • Collaborating with Technical Staff to resolve and document staffing plans, workforceforecast analysis and workforce reports.

  • Performing financial oversight of project account costs and actuals, review andapprove financial journals, and prepare budgets for research proposals.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Typically requires a Bachelors degree in Business Administration or related disciplinewith a minimum of 1 years of related experience; Masters degree in similar disciplineswith a minimum of 0 years of related experience; or PhD in similar disciplines with aminimum of 0 years related experience.

  • At least a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 GPA scale.

  • Analytical skills (including statistical charting).

  • Knowledge in the areas of financial analysis and reporting, human resourcesand acquisitions.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications such as Excel (advance excel, macros,pivot table, vlookup, etc.), Word and Powerpoint.

  • A customer service philosophy and professionalism when interfacing with alllevels of personnel.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Ability to implement best business practices in achieving the goals of thesection.

Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge of JPL policies, procedures, processes and financialsystems.

  • Administrative experience in the areas of financial analysis, budgeting, costanalysis, asset management, workforce planning, and human resources.

  • Experience with ORACLE financial and requisition modules.
