AdventHealth Orlando seeks to hire Pharmacy Patient Care Coordinator who will embrace our mission to extend the healing ministry of Christ.

Facility Profile:

Located on a lush tropical campus, our flagship hospital, 1,107-bed AdventHealth Orlando, serves as the major tertiary facility for much of the Southeast, the Caribbean and South America. AdventHealth Orlando houses one of the largest Emergency Departments and largest cardiac catheterization labs in the country. Work Hours/Shifts:

8am-6pm; M-F, 8:00am – 6:00pm

Job Summary:

The Pharmacy Patient Care Coordinator (PPCC) will be responsible for but not limited to the following: will be required to work closely with the AdventHealth Transplant team (pharmacist(s), surgeons, physicians, and social workers) and other specialty disease states departments to improve patient outcome, by assisting with processing, filling and delivery of their medications. Assist with receiving referrals, verifying patient verifying patient demographics and medication coverage in the database, initiating and obtaining prior authorization requests, and communication with specialty patients. The PPCC will serve as the main point of contact to facilitate communication between the Pharmacy and all specialty departments. Performs other duties necessary for the effective daily operations of the Retail pharmacy, and assist in a range of supportive duties consistent with the goals, policies and procedures of the pharmacy. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

Knowledge, Skills, Education, & Experience Required:

  • Proficient in computer skills

  • Proficient in processing third party claims and secondary billing

  • Knowledge of part B a part D Medicare billing

  • Ability to work under pressure and with a sense of urgency

  • Willingness to learn new things and accept new challenges (Preferred)

  • Ability to interact professionally with public and other medical staff (Preferred)

  • A minimum of 2 to 3 years working in a retail pharmacy or equivalent environment

  • Prior experience processing and filling prescriptions for specialty patients (Preferred)

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. certificate (Preferred)

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required:

  • Must be certified by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)

  • Must be registered with the Florida Board of Pharmacy

Job Responsibilities:

  • Prescription processing: follow a systematic procedure for assisting with the flow of prescriptions through the Transplant Center Pharmacist and the pharmacy. Upon receipt of referrals, verify accuracy of patient information, verify insurance information and initiate prior authorization request when required. Promptly communicate all unresolved third party rejection and prior authorization request issues to the referral source and the patient. Maintain current patient information in computer. Assure that patient has signed HIPAA release. Keep pharmacist aware of patient status and need for prescription check. Assure orders are processed, dispensed and delivered accurately and promptly.

  • Prescription delivery and follow-up: Make scheduled follow up calls to specialty patients to verify delivery of their medications and check their status. Contact patients prior to shipment of refill medications to set up delivery time, verify shipping address and inform patients of their financial responsibility when applicable.

  • Communication: communicate with patients, pharmacist, and other pharmacies regarding prescription transfers or clarification. Answer phone calls and respond to needs of patients, physicians, and other healthcare practitioners regarding status of prescriptions and deliveries. Promptly inform patients and specialty referral source of any potential problems that may delay or prevent the timely processing and delivery of medications to patients.

  • Expense management: perform all activities involved in the management of pharmaceutical expenses by reviewing and comparing generic costs. Seek additional vendors for hard to obtain pharmaceuticals whenever necessary. Identify changes in drug movement patterns to Pharmacist as needed to address issues that may impact

  • Grant Applications: Assist patients with completing grant applications for medications. Communicate with pharmaceutical companies for availability of grant money and possible generic options. Work with transplant team on medication solutions when patient medication needs arise

  • Professional development: remain current in all pharmacy related business and other necessary policies and procedures to insure consistent quality of knowledge and performance. Attend monthly pharmacy staff meetings. Read memos and posted changes. Participate in hospital or department in-service programs or continuing education programs as requested by supervisor

  • Patient Contact: work closely with adult and pediatric transplant patients in the kidney, pancreas, liver, hear, and lung transplant programs.
