Reporting to the Director of Corporate Communications, the Communications Manager will spearhead the organization's public relations efforts, manage the global PR agency and be the primary contact for media. The Manager will be responsible for strategic communications and engagement that further the organization's positive reputation and credibility among key stakeholders in support of the organization's mission and corporate goals. This role requires a mix of editorial and project management skills, along with the communication and interpersonal skills to build strong relationships across functional roles and business divisions globally.



The ideal candidate will be an inquisitive learner who possesses excellent editorial and communication skills. This candidate will have experience in creating content (digital/editorial) for a diverse range of audiences and is an enthusiastic adopter and user of digital communications technology (including social media channels). The candidate will be skilled at communicating with colleagues across functions and demonstrates the ability to ask questions, solve problems and bring tasks to completion. This role will be required to review and edit communications copy to ensure consistency of UL brand messaging, positioning and value proposition. Additionally, this candidate will be interested in and keep abreast of best practices and communications industry trends, in order to best support the business strategy.

Responsibilities

+ Responsible for assisting with all PR efforts through the global organization to include working on routine PR projects with internal stakeholders and external PR agency.

n

+ Project manage all facets of public relations activities such as media interviews, messaging documents, press release distribution, media monitoring and reporting, social media efforts and more.

n

+ Help develop and coordinate global programs; ensuring that global markets have relevant materials for program launches.

n

+ Develop, modify and execute organizational PR policies.

n

+ Regularly report on public relations opportunities and the effectiveness of PR efforts.

n

+ Assist all functional areas in developing and coordinating strategic communications to key stakeholders.

n

+ Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop creative and integrated programs to support the brand as well as business objectives.

n

+ Proactively work with media to place stories that help drive brand awareness and reputation.

n

+ Develop public relations opportunities in collaborative relationships with outside organizations.

n

+ Manage ongoing media training and develop talking points for company spokespeople.

n

+ Manage workflow of inbound public relations, news release and editorial requests through review and publica ion.

n

+ Apply editorial knowledge to draft content including contributed articles, blog posts and news announcements.

Qualifications

n

n

n

+ BS/BA degree (preferably in a liberal arts discipline, public relations, or marketing), or equivalent experience

n

+ At least five years of professional experience (ideally in a communications-related role)

n

+ Demonstrated ability to engage appropriately with different teams and roles inside a professional organization (ideally, experience in a global organization)

n

+ Demonstrated ability to use social media and other digital publishing channels appropriately

n

+ Ability to understand and translate technical and scientific topics into digestible language in a variety of formats

n

+ Top-notch communication skills: presentation, verbal, writing, editing

n

+ Strong writing and editing skills a must.

n

+ Ability to engage in multiple projects while delivering high-quality output and maintaining a great attention to detail and customer service

n

+ Values innovation and flexibility; proactive, motivated and a self-starter

n

+ Think strategically, execute programs against timelines and meet commitments

n

+ Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience managing and/or using a wide array of internal communication tools
