Job Description

KENTSIS LABORATORY MANAGER, SENIOR RESEARCH TECHNICIAN, http://alexkentsis.net/

MAIN FUNCTION:The senior research assistant will manage and conduct laboratory activities including performing experiments and analyzing data, maintaining supply inventory and experimental apparatus, and working with other lab members.This is a position of considerable responsibilities, with commensurate compensation. An ideal candidate is an individual with biological laboratory research expertise, including hands-on experience with breeding of genetically-engineered mice, mouse husbandry and procedures such as autopsy and xenografting, mammalian tissue culture and procedures such as lentivirus transduction, and analytical experiments in molecular and cell biology such as genetic cloning, immunoassays, and molecular purifications. Prior experience in laboratory management is a plus.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:1. Perform laboratory experiments, which may be moderate to complex with increasing independence.2. Record data and perform basic analyses using mathematical and statistical modeling.3. Assist in the maintenance of mouse colonies.4. Help to prepare presentations and written articles for publication.5. Prepare laboratory reagents, chemicals, instruments, and maintain equipment.6. Maintain supplies inventory in accordance with departmental procedures.7. All other duties, as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

• Bachelors’ degree

• Minimum 3 year experience• Communication: Ability to compose written correspondence and to present information in a clear, concise manner.• Information Management: Ability to communicate, explain, interpret, share and present information to employees, management and clinical staff, as well as appropriate external contacts.• Time Management: Ability to set priorities among several tasks simultaneously and meet established deadlines.• Administrative: Ability to organize and maintain all research information for assigned project and to ensure adherence to established policies and procedures within MSKCC and from external/sponsoring agencies.• Computer: Ability to use a computer and software such as data management, spreadsheet, word processing and graphics applications. Strong familiarity with Internet search is preferred.
