Job Posting: Community Manager

The Community team is looking for a community manager (senior news assistant) to assist in the day-to-day operations of the desk.

The Times’s Community team, which is part of the Reader Center, is responsible for managing and moderating all comments on nytimes.com at https://www.nytimes.com/ . Our readers use our on-site comments to discuss and debate the big stories of the day, as well as to share personal reflections on how the news affects them.

Comments enable our readers to develop deep relationships with each other and allow them to connect directly with our journalists and share praise, questions and concerns. They also give our journalists an opportunity to see how their work is perceived and to contextualize our editorial processes.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with online communities, either as a manager or participant, and a respect for the contributions of nytimes.com readers. He or she will assist the community editor.

Key responsibilities:

  • Maintain high-quality user experience

  • Help coordinate our team of moderators

  • Moderate comments

  • Assist newsroom staff with use of moderation software and interaction with readers

  • Collaborate with colleagues on the wider Reader Center and Audience teams

Requirements:

  • Excellent news judgement and strong sense of journalistic ethics

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Able to multitask in a fast-moving environment

  • Willingness to work weekends and flexible hours
