AECOM is seeking a creative, highly talented Piping Designer to support the Global Oil & Gas Business. This position will be based in our New Orleans, LA office.
This position involves the checking, design and drafting of 3D CAD based mechanical and piping drawings for the energy, oil, gas and petrochemical industry projects.
Under general direction of a Lead Mechanical/Piping Designer, provide advanced 3D drafting and design services by preparing and maintaining mechanical and piping drawings.
Prepare 3D designs and estimates from general instruction and/or preliminary sketches, diagrams, or schematics.
Prepare Line Lists, Manual Valve Lists, and Drawings Lists.
May recommend modifications and changes for design improvement and simplification.
Produce complex technical drawings and piping isometrics.
Prepare working drawings from conceptual layout to detailed finished product.
Coordinate CAD projects with other discipline personnel.
Prepare and assemble project deliverables.
Creates digital assets that support teams to consistently plan, design, build, operate and maintain infrastructure. This includes digital engineering deliverables such as drawings, models and GIS apps as well as digital solutions used for collection, analysis and simulation. This function supports various disciplines and projects across all areas of engineering. Performs complex BIM or Plant Data Centric assignments involving the use of multiple application platforms, such as Revit, Intergraph SmartPlant, Plant 3D, etc. software, to achieve set results and deadlines.
Works under limited supervision.
Performs both routine and non-routine, complex drafting assignments that require judgment in resolving issues or making recommendations.
Uses applications to scale and edit assignments involving the use of computer aided design and drafting equipment and other graphics software (e.g. CADD software) to achieve set results and deadlines.
Digitize or trace sketches or concepts from designers using CADD software, such as AutoCAD or MicroStation.
Decisions made with general understanding of procedures and company policies to achieve set results and deadlines.
Follows specific, standardized procedures to achieve set results and deadlines.
Receives little instruction on daily work and general instructions on new assignments.
- Bachelor of Science Degree and four (4) years of design experience with complex industrial piping plant design drawings.
- Associates Degree and six (6) years of design experience with complex industrial piping plant design drawings.
- High School Diploma or GED and eight (8) years of design experience with complex industrial piping plant design drawings.
Proficiency in design of mechanical and piping drawings to include Orthographic (orthos), Isometric (isos) and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID's).
Previous experience developing design packages for industrial plant construction
Must be proficient in AutoCAD 3D CAD Design/Modeling Software..
Must be able to travel to industrial field project location(s), with lead designer(s) or engineer(s) for field inspection(s), field sketches and verification of piping installations, which includes walking, climbing ladders, etc.
Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office: Word, Excel and Outlook.
Proficiency in the use of Plant 3D and/or CADworx 3D CAD Design/Modeling Software.
Prefer a minimum of 6 years + of design experience with complex industrial piping plant design drawings.
Previous experience working on Oil & Gas, Power and/or Petrochemical industry projects.
