The Medical Coder - Metairie, LA, will be responsible for increasing revenue, accuracy of payment and quality of care by identifying and submitting unreported validated medical diagnoses and deleting diagnoses that are submitted inappropriately. Draws on extensive coding knowledge to review, code, and submit/delete diagnoses in order to continuously ensure the resources and benefits required to care for our members is provided.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Travel within the service area toperform medical record reviews as needed

  • Conduct research in order to definesuspects

  • Perform chart reviews based onsuspects to recover diagnoses not coded

  • Evaluate and communicatedocumentation and coding deficiencies in provider records

  • Conduct chart reviews to validatedata accepted by CMS

  • Maintain professional relationshipswith physicians and / or staff

  • Maintain work calendars and complywith all internal processes

  • Understand and keep up to date withRisk Adjustment and ICD - 10 - CM Guidelines

  • Set priorities for own workassignments and uses initiative in completion of tasks

  • Participate in auditing projects asassigned

  • Assist in training new members ofthe coding team

  • Assist in special projects asdirected

  • Perform any other tasks asrequested by the Director or Managers

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma / GED ( or higher)

  • 2+ years of successfulemployment in coding

  • Coding Certification (CPC)

  • Ability to travel 10% within the service area to perform medical record reviews as needed

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Outlook (data entry and able to open, read documents and spreadsheets, able to open, read and respond to emails in a timely matter)

  • Transportation and ability totravel to perform chart reviews
