Oversees nursing practices; patient care delivery; and human and fiscal resources of Perioperative patient care services management for Long Island Jewish Medical Center. Ensures high quality and cost effective patient care within regulatory and professional standards while in concert with other hospital management to fulfill the institutions' mission. Mentors direct reports and establishes productive working relationships with the medical staff, support departments and the lay and professional community. Provides leadership and management expertise to set and maintain standards of clinical practice, ensuring the fulfillment of department goals.
- Standards Compliance
Develops and implements policies, standards and programs that support and facilitate the clinical practice of nursing and quality improvement programs.
Interprets and maintains adherence to regulations and legislation and responds to bioethical, public policy and legal issues which may influence the delivery of patient care.
- Clinical Practice/Patient Care
Ensures that the nursing care delivery system considers patient mix, community needs, the knowledge and skills of the nursing staff, available resources and established health care outcomes.
Continuously investigates and keeps current with healthcare issues and develops mutually agreed upon clinical programs with the medical and nursing staff.
Responsible for the daily operations surrounding patient care services including housekeeping, patient advocate, nursing, maintenance and security.
Educates and markets the roles and responsibilities of nursing to a variety of audiences in the lay and professional community.
- Fiscal Management
Designs and implements an annual operating plan.
Forecasts, establishes and maintains a financial plan for nursing management.
Accountable for the prudent utilization of all resources, the maintenance of patient safety, and the most efficient utilization of information systems applications.
Participates in the development of educational research programs and seeks opportunities for cooperative efforts with other departments, disciplines and agencies.
- Human Resource Development
Provides direction and acts as a mentor assisting subordinates to succeed; continuously evaluates individual performance and provides immediate feedback regarding areas for improvement.
Directs the planning and implementation of educational programs, which will enhance professional self-esteem.
Accountable for self-development in areas of clinical nursing and management.
- Interactive Relationships
Works with Senior Leadership in strategic planning to establish and achieve goals and objectives that will position the Department of Patient Care Services for success.
In partnership with physicians and the health care community, revises or develops new/alternate clinical programs which are cost effective and will enhance the quality of patient care.
Cooperates with other hospital administrators to promote effective daily operations and foster an environment in which all levels of staff participate in planning and problem solving to enhance the value of nursing services.
Networks to establish Northwell Health System as the pre-eminent source of healthcare information and patient care delivery.
- Performs related duties, as required. *ADA Essential FunctionsQualifications
Master's Degree in Nursing or related field, required. Either Master's or Bachelor's Degree must be in Nursing.
Current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State.
Minimum of ten (10) years Nursing Leadership experience, including three (3) years experience in a complex clinical environment.
Ability to formulate and manage budgets, operating and financial plans. Ability to effectively utilize and lead all human resources talent within a division of nursing, advance the practice of nursing. Main goal-oriented behavior, initiative, and creativity.
