JOB SUMMARY Responsible for development and evaluation of education/training programs. Designs, implements, evaluates and supervises clinical education programs. Supervises Surgery education staff. Serves as a resource and consultant to managers and staff on educational issues in assigned departments and units.

JOB DUTIES 1. Actively demonstrates the organization’s mission and core values, and conducts oneself at all times in a manner consistent with these values. 2. Knows and adheres to all laws and regulations pertaining to patient health, safety and medical information. 3. Oversees surgical services educators for the development and implementation of education /training programs for the professional and unlicensed staff. 4. Develops, updates and maintains skill competency lists and evaluation forms for all employees. Assures other educators within surgical services are doing the same for their areas of responsibilities. 5. Coordinates, designs and/or implements educational offerings for surgical services and maintains documentation of attendance. This includes but not limited to new equipment, new procedures and requested educational topics. 6. Collaborates with preceptors to adapt the structured orientation program, evaluate and revise departmental orientation program based on the changing patient and employee population. 7. Develops and monitors a residency program for training inexperienced nursing staff to the operating room. 8. Assists in preparing and presenting educational offerings. 9. Evaluates and monitors new associates of their progress throughout their orientation. Counsels and reviews educational needs as necessary. Informs OR management of orientation progress for all new associates on a regular basis. 10. Assists management and staff to ensure surgical services maintain compliance for all related regulatory bodies. 11. Acts as a role model, clinical resource person and change agent while promoting an effective communication network in surgical services between units and facilities. 12. Assists management with reviewing and revising policies and procedures for all areas of surgical services. 13. Oversees decision-making unit councils for surgical services. Mentor for Magnet Status. 14. Coordinates with the System Administrator the educational needs of surgical services for computerized documentation. Assists with implementation of new computer programs and/or upgrades. 15. Assists management with developing and implementing quality improvement plans for all areas of surgical services. Monitors data collection, evaluates data and reports results to appropriate managers. 16. Collaborates as needed with the hospital wide Clinical Education Department. 17. Performs other duties consistent with purpose of job as directed.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS AND CORE COMPETENCIES Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with a Bachelor’s Degree in nursing. Master’s Degree preferred. Licensure: RN Indiana license. Experience: 3-5 years experience in clinical education with operating room experience. Other Job Requirements: Strong written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training, design, teaching, and instruction for individuals and groups for the measurement of training effects. Assigned hours within your shift, starting time, or days of work are subject to change based on departmental and/or organizational needs.
