University of Minnesota Physicians Epic Educator - Clinic Advocate - 1.0 FTE in Minneapolis, Minnesota

As the multi-specialty group practice for the faculty of the University of Minnesota Medical School, University of Minnesota Physicians has more than 950 physicians and 1,600 health professionals, providing clinical care in over 100 specialty and sub-specialty areas. The Epic Educator - Clinic Advocate assists the Epic Instructional Designer in maintaining the learning program for their respective application(s). They work closely with the Epic Instructional Designer to learn and become proficient in both the functionality and process (workflows) for their application(s). These individuals will support providers and team members within the clinic, assist with new team member training, analyze existing workflows and act as a liaison between the application team and team members. Epic Educator - Clinic Advocate may also lead training portions of a project. The Epic trainer - Clinic Advocate will also assist the clinic with other technology (i.e. Dragon Medical One, RightFAX, Versus, Mobile Apps, others as needed) utilized within the clinic.

The Epic Educator - Clinic Advocate provides direct Epic support and training to current and new personnel, students, and physicians to meet on-going training needs. The position will partner closely with the Clinic Operations Informaticist to deliver projects related to Patient Access. Assists in the development of curriculum, training plans, and teaching materials. Assists in the development and validation of the training environment and the testing of the live environment.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Site Support of clinic coordinators, concierge, schedulers, providers, clinical team members, and others.

  • Maintains the on-line (internet based) training site ensuring accurate training data is available at all times.

  • Collaborate with clinic leadership and providers on input for training and training materials

  • Assists in the development and validation of the training environment and the testing of the live environment.

  • Assists in the development of skills assessment program for the Epic system.

  • Assists in the development of skills assessment program for other technology.

  • Assist in developing and maintaining skills/proficiency assessments for end users

  • Validate training content and effectiveness by observing employees using new skills on the job.

  • Evaluate the results of assessments and observations to review and revise training as needed

  • Demonstrates ability to provide service adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level of population served. (as applicable)

  • Provides employee education based on assessment of learning needs of learner.

  • Actively identifies new areas for learning; regularly creating and taking advantage of learning opportunities; using newly gained knowledge and skill on the job and learning through their application.

The minimum qualifications for this role are:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in training or healthcare related field or equivalent work, education and healthcare training experience.

  • Previous Epic training experience. Experience developing curriculum, training plans, and teaching materials.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite software programs. Working knowledge of EMR documentation standards and knowledge of adult learning styles. Outstanding writing and teaching skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Strong people skills and public speaking experience. Good organizational and time management skills. Leadership and problem-solving skills, ability to influence change and analytical aptitude.

  • Self directed. Conflict management skills. Flexibility and ability to travel to all work locations. Awareness of regulatory requirements for documentation and patient safety.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in training or healthcare related field

  • Epic Cadence, Prelude, Grand Central (Patient Access) certified principal or credentialed educator.

  • Epic Cadence, Prelude, Grand Central (Patient Access) Experience

  • Training experience implementing Epic in a complex medical system.

  • Previous Epic Cadence, Prelude, Grand Central (Patient Access) training experience.

  • Proficient Epic Cadence, Prelude, Grand Central (Patient Access) user.

  • Knowledge of UMPhysicians mission, vision, and values

  • Knowledge of confidentiality policies.
