Ryder System Payroll Manager in MIAMI, Florida

Position Description

The Payroll Manager has oversight of the centralized payroll operations reporting to Finance. They are responsible for payroll preparation, processing, tax administration, payroll accounting and employee/manager inquiry resolution. The Payroll Manager will reside in the U.S. headquarters and will be responsible for management, support and training of staff.



  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration/Accounting or related experience

  • Five (5) years or more experience in a lead payroll position

  • Demonstrated analytical skills

  • Effective leadership skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to:

  • Create and maintain professional relationships within all levels of the organization (peers, work groups, customers, managers and executives)

  • Work independently and as a member of a team

  • Capable of multi-tasking, highly organized, with excellent time management skills

  • Detail oriented with excellent follow-up practices

  • Knowledge of MS Excel (advanced level) and MS PowerPoint (intermediate level)

  • SAP Payroll/HR (intermediate level) preferred

  • Workday Payroll/HR (intermediate level) preferred

  • Certified Payroll Profession (CPP) preferred


  • Manage the end to end payroll operations ensuring paychecks and W2s are generated on time and accurately

  • Manage and coordinate legislatively required payroll tax updates to the Payroll system. Ensure changes are properly tested and migrated successfully into production

  • Supervise monthly payroll close and ensure payroll taxes are properly reported, booked in the G/L and paid. This includes the review of journal entries prepared as part of the close, account reconciliations, system checks and other closing related procedures

  • Oversee/manage the preparation of quarterly 941 filings as well as the compilation of all the required elements to generate accurate W-2s and W-2Cs

  • Drive process improvements to deliver greater efficiency across payroll operations and systems working with internal team members, and vendors to implement

  • Drive standardization of documentation for operational policies and procedures to streamline the payroll input, balancing and validation process

  • Provide customer service/support to the field locations including required reporting for analysis of payroll expenses and other employee related Payroll and tax inquiries

  • Participate in internal and external audits, as requested

  • Participate in the future design and implementation of the Workday HR/Payroll system

  • Perform other duties as assigned
