Job Summary: The medical technician (MA) is part of the care team in the ambulatory patient care setting and directly interacts with the patient, family, and caregiver in person, over the telephone and via the patient portal. The medical assistant advocates for the patient in the delivery of quality, cost effective patient care by performing the clinical tasks and duties assigned by the physician, nurse practitioner, physician assistant, registered nurse, and practice leadership to improve individual and population health.
Summary of Accountabilities:
Demonstrates the mission, vision, and values of Trinity Health in behaviors, practices, and decisions. Serves as a patient advocate in direct interactions with the patient and care team. Prepare exam rooms after each patient and at end of day. Assure cleanliness, neatness, and maintains par level of supplies. Greets and courteously escorts patients and other guests to the exam room. Accurately documents appropriate medical information. This includes but is not limited to; vital signs, such as pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, and weight and height; obtaining information regarding the reason for the patient visit and presenting problem/s; medical and social history. Accurately performs an electrocardiogram and appropriately places holter monitors. Accurately adds information to the patient’s electronic medical record including information clinically necessary for Meaningful Use requirements. Assist provider with care of patients when needed. Abstract and prepare medical records in advance of patient appointment to assure the past medical history is up-to-date, all previous orders are followed, completed tests and referrals is available, and any emergency room, urgent care or inpatient discharge information has been obtained. Assist patients with the completion of questionnaires as needed. Promptly and accurately communicates patient questions, issues or concerns with providers received via telephone. Maintains strict HIPPA compliance at all times according to Lourdes Health policy. Respond to families, visitors, and staff in a sensitive manner. Cultivate positive relationships with all patients, customers, guests, and members of the care team. Assist with any additional duties as needed or as directed by Lead, Office Manager, or Provider. Coverage of other practices as needed that will require travel to the alternate location. This will be at the discretion of the Lead, Office Manager/Coordinator and Operations Coordinator.
*Minimum Certifications, Registry and/or Licenses Required: *Certified Medical Assistant. Per NJBOME -Must be a graduate of a 600 hour Medical Assistant program that is accredited by the Department of Education. Must be certified by one of the following certifying bodies: NHA, AMT, NCCT or AAMA
*Minimum Degree and Experience Required:*
High school diploma or GED equivalent required; Experience as a Medical Assistant preferred.
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other employees, patients, hospital departments, organizations and the public. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Familiarity with ICD10 and CPT coding preferred. Good command of the English language and medical terminology both orally and written. Injection administration (as needed). Knowledge of sterile techniques and proper technique for blood and urine specimen collection, preparation, storage and delivery. Vital signs and EKG. Ability to perform diversified duties with a high degree of accuracy.
Ability to see and hear within normal limits with or without use of corrective devices
Motor dexterity of hands and fingers.
Ability to utilize proper body mechanics
Ability to lift at least 50 pounds (without assistance)
Ability to frequently bend, lift, move and pull. Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time.
