Trinity Health Trauma Chart Abstractor in Maywood, Illinois
Position Summary: Identifies reportable trauma/burn patients based on, but not limited to, the daily Emergency Department census report, trauma patients admitted directly to the hospital and the daily trauma patient list. Data entry into the registries is done for patients who have met inclusion criteria as defined by the local, regional, state and national accreditation bodies. Abstracts, codes and enters into the trauma/burn registries data from trauma/burn patient records in accordance with hospital, state and national guidelines. Reads and interprets the various components of the medical record, such as physician documentation, radiology reports, lab reports and treatment modalities. Prepares exclusion report for the trauma/burn registry. Performs quality control activities and ensures accuracy of data. Accesses medical record using the organizational policies regarding Health Information Management and ensuring compliance to HIPAA. Utilizes computer application or other automated systems such as EPIC, excel, outlook, database software systems in performing work assignments. Accurately prepares statistical and ad hoc reports as requested by the Trauma Nurse Registrar or the Trauma Program Manager in preparation for meetings and site visits. Attends meetings as requested. Assists in trauma/burn research and education as it relates to information in the trauma/burn registries (e.g. abbreviated injuring score coding, trauma/burn registry, ICD-10) as assigned. Participates in trauma/burn Quality Improvement by recognizing complications and reporting them to the Trauma Nurse Registrar and/or the Trauma QI Coordinator Provides peer review concerning accuracy of trauma/burn data. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Minimum Education: Required: High School Diploma plus training acquired through work experience or education
Preferred: Associates Degree
Specify Degree(s): Health Related
Minimum Experience: Required: 1-2 years of previous job-related experience
Preferred: 3-5 years of previous job-related experience
Details: ICD-10 and Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) Coding, Certified Specialist in Trauma Registry required within 2 years of employment. 1-2 years experience required with emphasis on data integrity and analysis is preferred. Medical terminology is essential. Proficiency in utilizing computers is essential (Word, Excel, etc.) as well as data management.
