Trinity Health Outpatient Pharmacist in Maywood, Illinois
The Outpatient Pharmacist prepares and dispenses medications. Orders, receives and maintains a
perpetual inventory so that PAR levels are properly established and maintained. Helps achieve the
mission of Loyola University Medical Center Outpatient Pharmacy Services by providing pharmaceutical care in a cost effective, results oriented, and customer focused manner.
- Compounding of prescriptions within established time frame. Receive
narcotic order and place the order away. Accurately and efficiently fill
medication orders and regular prescriptions in accordance with
established time parameters. Counsel patients concerning their
medications so they will understand their drug therapy and maximize its
effectiveness. Adhere to Illinois Law and LUMC policy and procedures
with respect to pharmacy activities including maintaining the
confidentiality of patient/client information at all times. (Follow HIPAA
guidelines) Professionally greet customers, answer phones and assist
customers in accordance with established department policies and
guidelines. Function effectively as a member of the pharmacy team.
Utilize advanced problem solving skills to facilitate a positive outcome
- Ability to open and close the pharmacy: includes call forwarding, charge
card batching, and end of day reports, daily register reconcile, cash bank
change, and turn in deposit. Team approach to daily duties. Ability to
process UPS mail-order prescriptions; look up missing deliveries and find
tracking numbers. Clerical duties’, filing of Rx’s, transmitting narcotic
logs, dust and face shelving check for outdated medications. Understand
and be able to reconcile third party insurance logs.
- Audit C-II cabinet monthly. Follow reporting protocols when errors occur.
Monitor and trouble shoot problems associated with the dispensing
technologies and information systems. Perform technical tasks that are
new or complex in the absence of pharmacy technicians or to provide
continuous pharmacy service.
- Act as an interface between pharmacy and its customers to coordinate
the delivery of Pharmacy services. Assist Pharmacy customers to satisfy
their medication and information needs. Counsel patients concerning
their medications so they will understand their drug therapy and
maximize its effectiveness. Participate in continuing education to
maintain up to date skills and knowledge.
- Provide medication information to other health care team members to
assist them in their patient care activities. Provide medication
information to other health care professionals that is accurate, adequate
and timely to optimize the patient's drug therapy. Explain procedures
and optimal pathways to achieve understanding and patient care goals.
Negotiate solutions to pharmacy service conflicts that result in
achievement of patient care priorities.
Work consists of various duties involving different processes and methods. Factors to be
considered differ with each assignment, and elements of the work must be identified and
analyzed to determine appropriate action. (Ex. Manager, RN, Physical Therapist, Admin Asst,
Supervisors, Medical Records Tech)
