Performs a variety of manual labor associated with the coating application and production process, which may include loading and unloading materials, moving parts and equipment, painting and coating parts, cleaning and maintaining parts and equipment, and providing routine assistance and support. Responsibilities may include lifting and loading items, touching up painted parts, cleaning and maintaining equipment. Ensures compliance with operating policies and procedures to maintain a safe environment and efficient operations; may require the employee to wear safety equipment or gear, including self-contained breathing apparatus. Communicates with production, maintenance, quality control, warehousing, and other departments to maintain a safe and effective environment and to ensure quality products. Cleans, sands, and coats parts on a moving monorail system using electronic and air powered equipment and tools, paint scrapers, and electrostatic paint guns. Moves totes, parts, and equipment using a pallet jack. Makes adjustments to paint booth, guns and all equipment in the environment room; following proper procedures and PPE. Ensures all equipment is functioning properly and within specification. May operate various equipment and machinery under direct supervision or as certified or trained. Completes daily check lists as assigned by Leads and other Supervisors. Flexibility required to work day or night schedule to support operations. Performs other duties as assigned. FORMAL EDUCATION: Required: High School Diploma or equivalent. KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE: Preferred: Experience within a manufacturing environment. Some previous painting or coatings experience using air and electronic spraying equipment is highly preferred. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to sit, stand, hear, and see on a constant basis. Must be able to walk, write, and type on a frequent basis. Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 pounds. Must be able to climb and descend stairs. Must be able to bend, carry, reach, push, and pull on an occasional basis. Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing. May work indoors and outdoors as needed. Exposure to heat up to 120 degrees and cold to 0 degrees. May work in areas where noise level is such that hearing protection is required. May work in areas where toxic, flammable, and hazardous materials are present. May be exposed to varying amounts of dust and dirt. Work surfaces may include concrete. Employee must be able to tolerate non-toxic paint odors and be able to wear a respirator as required. Employee must be able to operate a computer and communicate via telephone. Some travel to other locations, meetings and/or seminars is required. Other: WORK ENVIRONMENT: Manufacturing environment and will be subject to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, and loud noises. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, typing, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Very Heavy Work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally with assistance, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Painter Helpers may be required to pass a spirometry test.
