Janssen Research & Development, L.L.C. is recruiting for a Manager, Clinical Supply Chain Logistics Integration, located in Malvern, PA, Titusville, NJ, or Beerse, Belgium.
The DPDS Clinical Supply Chain holds the global responsibility of all clinical supplies of Janssen Research & Development portfolio and the Global Medical Affairs portfolio. Our activities include all in-house and outsourced manufacturing of clinical supplies (API, Drug Product, Packaged and Labeled Clinical Supplies), demand forecasting, supply planning, and global distribution of supplies. Through a global network and organization (US, Switzerland, Belgium, Ireland, Netherlands, India, China), we are responsible for the manufacturing and scale-up of Small Molecules and Bio Therapeutics products in development and low volume commercial supply and secure the supply to more than 60,000 patients in more than 330 clinical trials every year.
As the Manager, Logistics Integration, you will be leading and developing a team consisting of 6-8 individuals (internal FTE & contractors) that are responsible for logistic activities end-to-end (including API, Drug Product, and Finished Kits) for clinical compounds within the Janssen R&D portfolio (Bio Therapeutics and Small Molecules, and for all phases of clinical trials). This includes logistics set-up, issue management, and specific transactional activities. In this role, you will improve logistics processes and adherence to those processes, manage the overall distribution budget and proactively identify and manage risk to avoid patient impact.
To be successful, you will develop close working relationships with other Logistics team members (Temperature Management & Controls, Strategy, API, Drug Product, and Pack & Label), the broader Clinical Supply Chain organization (i.e. Clinical Supply Integrator, Trial & Supply Management, Manufacturing groups), and cross-functional business partners (i.e. Quality, Deliver, Procurement, Vendors) in order to drive achievement of organizational objectives and metrics.
Key Responsibilities:
General logistics activities supporting the global distribution network, such as creating distribution forecasts, maintaining the country import requirements database, etc.
E2E compound level logistics support including:
API and Drug Product shipping strategy and issue management support
Trial start up activities: ensure Logistics strategy is defined and implemented in a timely, compliant and cost-effective manner
Activities during trial execution, including issue management, track and trace activities, etc.
Owning the distribution budget and actuals for assigned compounds
Drives team accountability for logistics issue investigation and resolution activities related to clinical trial supply
Provides coaching and support for direct reports in the area of issue management, taking leadership over the escalation and (where applicable) resolution of critical risks and issues, in collaboration with the Logistics Strategy team
Supports team in properly managing any study risks while maintaining the highest standards of quality and compliance
Drives team problem solving and acts as a coach to team members to drive their technical and personal development
Represents Clinical Supply Chain for a specific trial and/or for various processes during GCP and GMP health authority inspections
Develops, implements and improves functional strategy and processes to further shape and position the Logistics Integrator role within Clinical Supply Chain
Influences decisions in other Logistics groups, Planning (T&SM), Design (CSI), Make (Pack&Label), etc. from a Logistics perspective
Develops, manages and challenges the distribution budget in a proactive manner (Functional as well as Out-of-Pocket budget)
Qualifications
A university/bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) required
Minimum 6+ years of experience in a supply chain related role required
An MBA degree is an asset, as is a certification in APICS
Demonstrated people leader or team leadership experience is preferred. Global team management is a plus.
Experience in the following required: distribution, transportation and/or logistics, including import/export and customs requirements
Experience with purchasing processes, MSA/SLA, budgeting is preferred
Strong knowledge of GxP principles preferred
Knowledge of temperature control and monitoring requirements for pharmaceuticals is preferred
Knowledge and understanding of clinical study needs and clinical operations is a preferred
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Excellent planning and cross-functional coordination skills, able to build strong collaborative teams and relationships, lead effective cross-functional/virtual teams, and positively contribute to employee engagement and retention
