Positions in this function prepare and maintain records of amounts owed and ensures prompt payment of invoices. Processes and verifies invoice coding of expenses, preparation of vouchers, and issuance of checks for payment. Reviews documents for accuracy and compliance with organization policy and regulatory guidelines including proper authorization, documentation, general ledger coding, correct amounts, proper remittance and sales tax. May include responsibility for vendor and provider payments, as well as employee reimbursements.

This position is responsible for the clerical duties relating to the timely posting and reconciliation of patient account payments from Commercial insurance companies, some Government programs and individual patients.

Verification of contractual write off amounts and data entry and balancing of payment data to patient accounts according to payer or program specifications.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Retrieval of electronic payment data

  • Review and interpretation of electronic and paper EOB’s

  • Assist operations team in processing expedited vendor payments

  • Complete reconciliation of billing with accounts receivables

  • Assist in special projects assigned by management, working towards improved efficiencies in the operations process

  • Overtime is possible based on department need

  • Hospital or patient accounting department functions, operations and procedures

  • Operation of online computerized patient accounting systems and or electronic billing systems

  • Accounting practices and procedures common to accounts receivable

  • General clerical office practices and procedures

  • Gather support data to ensure payment accuracy

  • Provide quality assurance and audit of payment posting activities

  • Monitor billing email box and provide customer support in a timely manner

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma / GED (or higher)

  • Knowledge and experience with CPT codes

  • Payment posting experience within the healthcare industry

  • Experience in administrative or clerical in an office environment

  • Ability to work Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM with the ability to work outside of normal business hours as needed

  • Experience with Explanation of Benefits (EOB)

  • Experience using a Windows PC computer, navigating through multiple systems and on multiple screens at the same time, and ability to learn new and complex computer systems easily

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in Epic

  • 1+ years of healthcare billing or collections experience

  • 1+ year of electronic cash posting and reconciliation experience in managed care

  • 1+ year of experience and / or knowledge of accounting functions

  • Experienced in Microsoft Excel and the ability to create / edit spreadsheets, use sort / filter functions, calculations within cells, etc.

  • Experienced in using Microsoft Outlook and the ability to send / receive emails
