What You'll Contribute:

As part of this team you will engage business and technology leaders and

champion the design, and articulation of solution engineering in relation

to specific business problems. You will lead the overall technical vision

and communication for solutions. In this role you will work with other top

developers in building modern solutions that scale in a high-volume

transactional environment.

What You'll Do:

80 %

  • Work across the enterprise leveraging your vast experience to be a changeagent at Sallie Mae. Your work will range from architecture, design andcode. Design architectural enablers for the enterprise while working withyour peer architects and IT and business leaders to find elegant technicalpaths that deliver business value

20 %

  • Continually improve your craft as a software engineer by learning andleveraging the latest design patterns, principles and technology. Leadtraining and Communities of Practice (CoPs) and read and implementsolutions in related materials to stay ahead of the technology curve

What You Bring:

  • College Degree or equivalent work experience

  • 10+ years’ experience as a full-time software developer or engineer in the following

  • C# .NET backend development and strong knowledge of .NET platform

  • Fluent in two or more programming languages: C#, Groovy, Java, Perl, PHP, Python, Ruby and Scala

  • Designing, developing and consuming RESTful, SOAP and GraphQL based web services for mission critical, high volume systems

  • 3+ years working in an architectural or solution engineering role

  • Experience developing cloud solutions either in AWS or Azure

  • Proficient with various programming languages and development environments as well as adopt new languages and technologies quickly

  • Ability to seamlessly partner with business teams, developing relationships with their technical and executive members

  • Understanding of all aspects and roles of scaled agile software delivery and the impacts associated with various types of technical decisions

  • Can effectively communicate a vision to technical and non-technical people

  • Both Theoretical AND Practical - knows and understands architecture principles and theory but can practically build reusable solutions that are optimized to balance a variety of quality factors

  • Experience with test driven development (TDD)

  • Experience working in a team-oriented fast paced, distributed and collaborative environment

  • Excellent troubleshooting skills, self-motivated, results-driven and well organized

  • A self‐motivated leader who is results driven, and media or technology enthusiast

  • Must value operating in a collaborative and cooperative environment

Extra Credit:

  • Experience in technology consulting

  • Ability to use a wide variety of open source technologies and cloud services

  • Programming experience multiple scripting and programming languages and supporting technologies such as Reagent/React, Clojure/Clojurescript, AWS Lamda, Java, Python, R, Ruby, Go, bash, Swift, Beanstalk, VSTS

  • Experience with Event Driven and event sourced architectures leveraging microservices

  • Experience designing/developing robust API’s for mission critical, high volume systems. (RESTful, GraphQL)

  • Experience working in financial services industry, compliance regulated environment

  • Proven ability to learn new technologies quickly
