Special Education Teacher Assistant

Avondale House is currently searching for motivated and energetic Teacher Assistants to work in our day school program.

Avondale House is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit agency that provides, educational services to individuals with autism, a day habilitation program for adults, whereclients receive training in daily living skills and pre-vocational activities, residential homes for individuals unable to live in their own home, job placement and training, and employment services. Avondale House has been serving individuals with autism since 1976.

In the Teacher Assistant role, you will ensure engagement of students in the classroom as they work on IEP and behavior goals, keep each student focused and on track throughout the day, prepare the classroom for the beginning of the day, assist students with personal care, monitor and assist students throughout the day as needed, assist students upon arrival and dismissal, accompany the students to outside activities, and work with other staff throughout Avondale House in order to meet the educational goals of each student.

The perfect fit for this position will hold a High School Diploma or GED, a minimum of one year of direct experience working with individuals with various developmental disabilities, and excellent communication skills.

The work hours for this position are Monday - Friday, 7:45am - 4:45pm.
