Location: Houston , Texas - United States Shift: Days; OT as required SUMMARY The Lift Truck Operator (LTO) - Shipping position is an hourly position, receiving direction from the Shipping Coordinator and reporting to the Warehouse Leader. The employee is responsible for ensuring that the forklift needs for the warehouse are met. This position will be responsible for the safe operation of forklifts and other powered industrial vehicles and provide support for the operation of the roofing plant via loading, transporting, or stacking of raw materials, finished product, parts, etc. Principal Duties and Responsibilities : SAFETY Follow and enforce all safety rules and procedures, training, and initiatives Inspect vehicles before use and throughout shift Maintain good housekeeping in all work areas Participate on safety teams QUALITY Monitor and report unusual or suspect material issues before receiving shipments Monitor quality of product and materials before loading shipments Evaluate stock for damage Confirm all load information on paperwork Monitor and report unusual or suspect material issues Maintain loading time of 20 minutes or less OPERATIONS Operate powered industrial vehicles to Load/unload flatbed trucks, vans, and rail cars/boxcars Stage finished product Move materials Empty hoppers Clean work areas Fill orders based on pick list, pack list, or bill of lading Call and bill out loaded rail cars Interface with external customers and vendors Confirm squares, colors, weights, product mix, paperwork, and loads Receive materials from vendors, carriers, and delivery services Work on computer to check driver logs for pickups, order numbers, shipment numbers, weights, and destinations Keep warehouse forklifts clean and operational Interface with plant employees to provide process control information Participate on process teams SKILLS AND ABILITIES Must be able to operate forklift Must be able to read, write, and speak English with the customers and fill orders based on the Pick List, Pack List, and Bill of Lading, which are written in English Must have the ability to perform basic mathematical calculations daily Must be able to work at a reasonably fast pace Must be able to work flexible schedules, including weekends Must be willing to work in a team environment Must be able to interface well with external customers and vendors Regular attendance, timeliness, and scheduling flexibility are required COMPUTER AND SOFTWARE COMPETENCIES Must be able to work with a computer to perform basic data entry Must be capable of inputting data into SAP system EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE Minimum high school diploma or equivalent ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT Exposure to temperature extremes Exposure to sounds or noise levels that may be uncomfortable Exposure to dust/dirt and fiberglass Possible exposure to inclement weather due to daily indoor and outdoor work Team work environment Mandatory overtime as required About Owens Corning Owens Corning is a global leader in insulation, roofing, and fiberglass composite materials.
