MD Anderson Cancer Center Health Education Specialist -Health Services Research in Houston, Texas
The primary purpose of the Health Education Specialist is to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate decision support tools for patients, caregivers, and clinicians. The Health Education Specialist will develop cancer-related materials and resources necessary for program implementation and work with team members to execute related research studies. The Health Education Specialist will serve as an enthusiastic, professional, and self-motivated team member and leader in a fast-paced environment.
Decision Aid Production (40%)
* Coordinates the design and production of decision aids.
Designs educational modules and programs including scripts, flow diagrams, and storyboards.
Maintains production and source documents.
Acts as liaison with the decision aid production team (playwrights, graphic illustrators, videographers, narrators, programmers, and others).
Modifies decision aid components based on user testing.
Study Management, Data Collection, and Regulatory Compliance (30%)
* Exhibits excellent organizational and project management skills, creating and following study procedures in adherence to regulatory standards, identifying project deliverables, and implementing study initiatives to achieve measurable change.
Creates and manages multiple complex timelines with varying contingencies and feedback loops.
Schedules and facilitates team meetings.
Enrolls eligible participants in research studies, determines patient eligibility, and obtains informed consent.
Engages in all parts of research study activities, including cognitive and/or qualitative interviews with study participants.
Analyzes qualitative data to inform research study activities.
Facilitates data entry and data management in study databases with precision and in a timely manner.
Creating Written Communication and Content (30%)
* Prepares reports for project funders and presentations or publications for dissemination of information related to the project.
Writes didactic content based on evidence and adapts content for a lower-literate audience using health literacy principles.
Understands scientific and technical writing, accurately summarizing technical messages for various audiences.
Actively participates in manuscript and grant writing efforts.
Communicates professionally and in a timely manner with study team members and internal/external collaborators.
Other duties as assigned.
Required: Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Health Education, Community Health Education or related field.
Required: Two years experience coordinating patient education programs.
Required: Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
