MD Anderson Cancer Center Advanced Pharmacy / Medication History Technician - Inpatient (3pm-11:30pm + every other weekend) in Houston, Texas

Hours: 3pm-11:30pm + every other weekend

SUMMARY

The primary purpose of the Medication History Technician is to obtain, update, and record the patient home medication list in the electronic health record through communication with the patient and/or patient's family, providers, and/or local pharmacy. The Medication History Technician will be responsible for maintaining a professional demeanor when conducting patient interviews, as well as when reporting information to pharmacists and other providers.

KEY FUNCTIONS

1.Communication

a.Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills and exhibits customer service through showing compassion, dignity and care for patients

b.Maintains appropriate language and volume when interacting with patients and/or patient's family, providers, and/or local pharmacy

c.Provides timely communication with providers regarding updates to the patient home medication list, as applicable

2.Assessment

a.Accurately obtains all elements of a patient home medication list, including correct prescription medications, over the counter medications, and/or vitamin and nutritional supplements

b.Confirms patient medication allergies with each encounter

c.Consults with a pharmacist or provider regarding any uncertainties that arise upon patient assessment of home medications and allergies

3.Documentation

a.Consistently documents the most updated and accurate information regarding the patient's home medication list in the electronic health record

b.Proficient in documentation procedures within the electronic health record

c.Provides timely information of updates to the patient home medication list within the electronic health record

4.Other duties as assigned

Education Required:

High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience Required:

Five years of Pharmacy Technician experience, to include three years experience at MD Anderson.

Certification Required:

Current Pharmacy Technician Registration with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP).

Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
