Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center is conducting a search for our next Director, Environmental and Linen Services.
Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center is the only facility in the state of Pennsylvania to be accredited as both an adult and pediatric Level 1 Trauma Center. The Director, reporting directly to the Vice President, Hospital Operations provides department leadership for Environmental and Linen Services.
As strategic leader for responsible areas, the Director will implement action plans in support of organizational goals and initiatives related to quality, patient experience, employee engagement, operational excellence/clinical effectiveness and financial management.
This individual will leverage performance indicators and benchmarking data to improve operational efficiencies and productivity to align with best practices. This will include Developing and executing an efficient unit-based labor model for the facility as well as optimizing the utilization of a Bed Management System.
As a leader integral to positively influencing employee engagement, the Director Environmental and Linen Services will prioritize staff and leadership development to creating a culture of respect and inspiration. A critical component will be to identify staff training needs, develop or assist with development of training programs to meet needs, and work to create a culture of service excellence and accountability.
A visible leader for all assigned departments, the Director will effectively communicate the state of the operation to the Vice President of Operations, department leaders and staff, vendors, and the organization-at-large. The Director will also collaborate and engage with Infection Control, Nursing, Safety and Operational Excellence to develop and drive standard operating procedures, policies, and guidelines to support our mission to deliver high quality care at the lowest possible cost.
The Director of Environmental and Linen services will be integral to monitoring and ensuring all departments are in compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local environmental health and safety laws, standards, regulations, and requirements (e.g., Joint Commission, Department of Health, etc.).
Bachelor’s degree in business, management, or related curriculum is required.
5 years of experience with a thorough knowledge of environmental services in an advanced healthcare setting is required.
Experience in regulatory compliance required (e.g., Joint Commission, DOH).
Experience in negotiating contracts, agreements, and partnerships based on financial and operational needs required.
Master’s Degree from an accredited college preferred
7 years of experience with a thorough knowledge of environmental services in an advanced healthcare setting is highly desirable.
CHESP Certification preferred.
Experience in managing a workforce covered under a collective bargaining agreement preferred.
