IBM Aviation Meteorologist for The Weather Company in FORT WORTH, Texas
The Weather Company, an IBM Business is seeking a Meteorologist in Dallas/Ft Worth, TX. As an Aviation Meteorologist, you will provide advanced forecasting expertise for TWC's decision support products and services to airline operations control centers and airline airport personnel. This position requires an understanding of airline operations and air traffic control environment. You will be delivering timely products with the accuracy and quality required to meet and exceed customer expectations. Additionally, you will convey complex concepts and risk assessments to a diverse set of operational users within the airline environment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Provide advanced level aviation forecasts mainly for terminal weather conditions but also for the arrival/departure airspace covering the 0-72 hour domain. Forecasting utilizing advanced forecasting modeling and workstation technology.
Provide trend analysis and forecast briefings for aviation dispatchers and traffic management personnel. Develop knowledge of airspace, air traffic control programs affecting the airline’s Hub and Focus City domains.
Actively collaborate with other meteorologists on Global weather issues particularly in the 0-48 hour time frame. Specific focus on forecast trends through 24 hours.
Generate short-fused narratives, forecast discussions and weather alerts for disruptive weather events within the 0-24 hour forecast domain as weather conditions dictate.
Generate system wide risk forecasts for potential impacts to customer assets involving significant weather events including severe thunderstorm, snow and ice, and wind/ tropical systems.
Deliver operational forecast content consistently and accurately within rigid time constraint.
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
At least 3 years of operational aviation weather forecasting with civil/commercial experience or military experience accepted, with demonstrated achievements and progressive responsibilities
Ability to effectively communicate and interact in an operational team environment
Advanced proficiency in forecast process within an operational forecasting environment
Exceptional organizational, data analysis, data collation and process management skills
Demonstrated proficiency to effectively multitask and adjust priorities based on changing weather conditions in a fast-paced operational environment
Preferred Tech and Prof Experience
- 3 years of experience within aviation traffic management, operational flight planning, and/or operational decision support.
