The Lens Industrialization Product Development team oversees new lens development activities at Foothill Ranch. This includes new lens substrates or thin film coatings, support of process improvements and industrialization of new lens technologies. Our goal is to use data-driven, scientific methodology and a customer-centric attitude to yield desired results and support Oakley’s best-in-class products. This role is a technician to support our engineers in five main areas: Extrusion, Molding, Hard Coating, Thin Film Coating and Lens Cutting.


  • Work closely with R&D, Quality and Process engineering teams on transitioning product from initial proof of concept/process through Industrialization that includes production tooling, qualification testing, and successful release to manufacturing.

  • Perform routing and tracking of lens related materials, samples, and test results through the various levels of lens development.

  • Perform engineering pilot support in extrusion, hard coating, lens cutting, thin film coating, hydro-oleo and plaque molding.

  • Ensure proper testing of new and existing lenses and eyewear, documentation of results and posting status to the related stakeholders.

  • Create and revise current lens engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions. Create and cross-reference other appropriate documents such as process sheets, and work instructions. Utilize checklists, process flow charts, and central task planning system in OneNote.

  • Work with Process Engineering and Quality teams to aid in continual improvement efforts to existing in-house lens performance, production technologies, and methodologies.


  • Associates Degree or equivalent

  • 3+ years in related work experience.

  • Must be able to demonstrate solid organizational and technical acumen skills

  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel

  • Must have strong verbal and written communication proficiency


  • Bachelor’s degree or certification from a technical school, highly desired

  • Knowledge/experience using spectrophotometer

  • Plastics injection molding experience or knowledge

  • Scratch resistance coating material knowledge or experience

  • Vacuum coating deposition experience or knowledge

  • Able to speak additional languages such as Spanish, Italian or Chinese is a plus
