Job Description:

Opportunity for an experienced Senior Application & Database Specialist to join a fast-paced Program that develops advanced IT solutions and services for a feral government system. The candidate will provide support for moderate to complex technical development and operations in an agile environment. This position’s primary focus is on someone with database program and administration experience using open source database (e.g. mySQL, PostgreSQL, etc.) supporting new applications development, operations and maintenance to work within our software development and DevSecOps teams.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Provides all activities related to the administration of computerized databases.

  • Projects long-range requirements for database administration and design in conjunction with other team leads in the information systems function.

  • Utilizes one or in combination with the following Amazon AWS and tools, open source relational databases, such as MySQL, PostgreSQL and/or Oracle.

  • Supports Windows and Linux based environments for GOTS, COTS, custom and mobile applications across development, testing and production for, physical, hybrid and cloud based solutions.

  • Designs, creates, and maintains databases in a client/server environment.

  • Conducts quality control and auditing of databases in a client/server environment to ensure accurate and appropriate use of data.

  • Advises users on access to various client/server databases. Designs, implements, and maintains complex databases in open source databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL and/or oracle.

  • Applies knowledge and experience with database technologies, development methodologies, and front-end/back-end programming languages (e. g., SQL).

  • Performs database programming and supports systems design. Includes maintenance of database dictionaries, overall monitoring of standards and procedures, file design and storage, and integration of systems through database design. Integrates data from various files, including MySQL, PostgreSQL, and Oracle.

  • Performs Independent Verification & Validation (IV&V) and Quality Control/Quality Assurance. Administer, test, and implement computer databases, applying knowledge of database management systems.

  • Coordinate changes to computer databases. May plan, coordinate, and implement security measures to safeguard computer databases.

  • Leads database and application environment engineering, hosting design, and configuration.

  • Maintains and collects Environment performance metrics analysis and reporting

  • Uses Dashboard Monitor and analysis of application and database log analytics and telemetry. Performs change Log tracking and administration.

  • Monitors database and application resource usage, and performance monitoring to avoid service disruption.

  • Originates and maintains required technical documentation.

  • Supports continuous deployment with DevSecOPS tools, planning and agile processes and working in agile teams and environments.

  • Supports web based systems and applications that serve several thousands of users

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, related field or the equivalent and 10 years related experience or a MS and 8 years of experience or the equivalent

  • Seven (7) years of experience with database administration, development and management, including design and creation using best practices, importing, exporting, indexing, back-up, data processing, and database management.

  • Seven (7) years of experience in working with database security and integrity.

  • Seven (7) years of experience with programing and writing scripts in mySQL, PostgreSQL, PL/SQL, or UNIX.

  • 3-4 years’ experience and working knowledge of cloud environments and understanding of a databases supporting micro-services based architecture in cloud

  • Some knowledge of NIST 800-63 guidelines and good understanding of security fundamentals, and authentication with OAuth, SAML etc.

  • Minimum of two years’ experience working in an Agile team/group, TDD, developing code for deployment in a DevSecOps environment.

  • Minimum of two years’ experience working with code versioning tools including Git, GitHub (preferred).

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Desired Education and Experience

  • US Citizen with DHS Public Trust suitability clearance/EOD

  • Experience with any DHS agencies or entities

  • 5+ years’ experience with one or more programming or scripting languages such as bash, Python, Ruby ,JavaScript and experience JSON, PostgreSQL and other open source databases and tools in Cloud environment

  • Ability to manage time effectively, to work under pressure, to meet schedules and deadlines, to multi-task, to plan, organize and prioritize work assignments and pay close attention to detail

  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills

  • Candidate must be an US citizen able to obtain DHS Public Trust clearance and USCIS EOD to start work
