Department Summary

The Office for Research and Innovation oversees the research activities of the University of Oregon (UO). The UO is a major public research university with grant awards exceeding $120 million and sponsor supported expenditures reaching $125 million annually. Research and Development expenditures support hundreds of active UO research, instruction, and community service projects. Principal recipients of these funds include more than 20 centers, institutes, and research core facilities that report to the Vice President for Research and Innovation. The Office of Research and Innovation provides comprehensive administrative support for sponsored programs, including identification of funding opportunities, proposals submission, human and animal subject's approvals, and contracts/grant administration, as well as the translation of basic research into commercial products or services.

Position Summary

The Executive Assistant to the Vice President for Research and Innovation (VPRI) provides confidential executive-level administrative support and serves as the primary contact for all matters related to the Vice President’s schedule and activities.

The incumbent is responsible for a broad set of assignments related to the duties of the vice president, which regularly require the ability to exercise independent judgment. The incumbent must possess comprehensive knowledge of the office, its mission, its programs and personnel, and the complex issues that accompany advancing the office’s mission as well as that of the university.

The executive support function, in addition to coordinating scheduling, office coverage, and communications, may also include event coordination, project management, research, and budgeting. All incumbents in this position will demonstrate strong communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills and conduct all job duties with high levels of confidentiality, sensitivity, and cultural awareness.

This position will work in a team with other OVPRI executive assistants to provide seamless support to the VPRI, Senior Associate VPRI and other select AVPs. This position will also take on special projects as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

•Bachelor’s Degree.

•Five years of professional executive assistant experience that includes managing a calendar for an executive-level position.

•Excellent organizational and time management skills.

•Demonstrated skill in effectively working with people from diverse backgrounds.

•Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks, work independently, manage projects and initiatives, and solve problems.

•Demonstrated proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook (or similar scheduling/calendar program); Microsoft Office suite; and new media/social networking applications.

Preferred Qualifications

•Professional work experience in higher education.

•BANNER proficiency or like platform.

•Executive support or administrative experience in a large, complex organization.

•Experience or proficiency in web site creation and/or maintenance.
