POSITION SUMMARY: The Nursing Assistant provides basic patient care under the direction of the RN in accordance with the philosophy, goals, objectives, and policies and procedures of Las Palmas Medical Center.

POPULATION SERVED: All employees, staff of LPMC in both clinical and non-clinical departments, including patient/families, physicians, volunteers, agency, contract, students and the community served.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Demonstrates knowledge and application of sterile technique, instruments and supplies needed for surgical cases.

Communicates, interacts and participates in teamwork on the unit.

Practices, endorses and provides customer service skills to patients, visitors, physicians and staff.

Demonstrates knowledge and respect of the patients right to privacy and protection of patient confidentiality.

Communicates and participates in patient care activities in direct conjunction with the Registered Nurse.

Demonstrates knowledge and application of basic patient care.

Monitors and documents information regarding patient activities, as directed by the RN.

Performs clerical duties and inventory control.

Sets priorities and organizes the workload on a nursing unit.

Other duties as assigned

_REQUIRED LICENSURE AND/OR CERTIFICATION_ BLS certification, if on an approved leave or FMLA, a 30 day grace period will be given.

High School diploma or GED

C.N.A certification, a 30 day grace period will be given if on an approved leave or FMLA



_REQUIRED EDUCATION: _ Will receive training on the unit.

_PREFERRED EDUCATION, LICENSURE, CERTIFCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES_: Completion of a formal training program or enrolled in a nursing program

Health care experience preferred

Reads and writes basic English with the basic skills necessary to understand and transfer physician's orders.

Ability to move in excess of 50 pounds, with assistance from other staff.

Effective communication skills; both orally and written.

Computer skills needed

Ability to work with others in a team

Strong customer service skills relating to patients, physicians, and staff.

Knowledge of basic anesthesia principles
