OptumRx provides pharmacy benefit management and pharmacy dispensing services to 65 million members. OptumRx’s pharmacy footprint is nationwide and includes home delivery, specialty pharmacy, infusion services, and specialized pharmacies for high-need populations like those suffering from severe mental illness.
The Vice President, Pharmacy Innovation is responsible for working across OptumRx and OptumCare to better integrate pharmacy capabilities at the local level in order to improve quality, access, cost, and provider experience.

Co-develop with OptumCare clinical and financial teams and OptumRx the business case, financial plan, and strategy for all pharmacy related initiatives
Establish best-in-class pharmacy practices by building and managing the relationship between OptumCare and OptumRx, as the primary partners in this endeavor
Be accountable for determining pathway to improved management of specialty medications in OptumCare delivery organizations on medical benefit driving $10M cost of care improvement annually
Determine appropriate pathway and timeline (if relevant) to Part D risk for all OptumCare markets
Materially increase home delivery of drugs to OptumCare patients ($1M+ opportunity in 2019); Includes identification of barriers to adoption and solution development with OptumRx team to overcome barriers
Identify data driven best practices for prescribing decisions that can be implemented into the workflow (likely to include scaled implementation of Pre-Check My Script) as well as medication adherence best practices, leveraging the extensive data assets and existing programs within OptumRx
This leader will report to OptumCare leadership with a dotted line to OptumRx leadership. They will be accountable to both organizations for optimizing pharmacy activities.
10+ years of healthcare experience in managed care
Managed care experience in a risk environment with emphasis on integration of pharmacy into physician work flow
Experience leveraging leadership and collaboration skills across multiple functional groups in a matrix organization
Proven and extensive understanding of risk agreements including DOFR (Division of Financial Responsibility) and financial implications
Sophisticated understanding of healthcare industry from provider, health plan, and hospital perspective, including relevant economic, regulatory, market, and reimbursement issues
- Master’s degree in business administration, healthcare administration, finance, or related field
