We are seeking a seasoned Application Solutions Architect with a high degree of maturity, ambition and depth of IT knowledge. This person must excel in delivering articulate communications both written and in person while conducting meetings and JAD sessions. In this Solution Architect role, you will be responsible for the development, communication and implementation of the organization's technology architecture and applications plan, including the components required to support it and in the integration of corporate and business architecture and applications.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Deliver all project deliverables on scope, on time and on budget

  • Work/collaborate with solution teams including Optum subject matter experts, technical architects, business process architects, product managers, program managers, scrum teams, and solution leads to develop and ensure your proposed solution not only meets or exceeds client requirements, but is innovative and cost competitive to the marketplace

  • Client/business relationship building and solution presentation through the multi-phases of the development life cycle

  • Manage client expectations in solution development, focus on outcomes and service levels

  • Model the technical landscape to analyze the alignment of business capabilities with delivered technology and IT solutions. Analyzing the current technology environment to detect critical deficiencies and recommend solutions for improvement

  • Define the principles that guide technology decisions for the application area

  • Build end-to-end solution plans that define the ideal and future state systems solution, scope of solution initiatives, solution delivery sequencing, assumptions, and risks

  • Create both extremely detailed to high level architecture documents and presentations for highly technical and business audiences

  • Conduct architecture assessments during business ideation, planning and prioritization

  • Provide in depth business architectural support during program / project solution analysis

  • Participate in Agile cadence such as Scrum standup meetings, backlog grooming sessions, review, and retrospective meetings as needed

  • Support the development of enterprise architecture best practices, standards and frameworks

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in applicable area of expertise or equivalent experience

  • 10+ years of experience in IT Solution Delivery and architecture

  • 8+ years of full-lifecycle application development experience in the systematic use of business requirements analysis and definition methodologies; Client/server, service-oriented architecture (SOA), middleware, database, operations and other technical understandings on a wide range of projects and disciplines

  • 6+ years’ experience building multi-tier applications such as Java or .Net or another Object Oriented/Multi-Tier system

  • Deep understanding of industry patterns for application architecture and integration

  • Agile development experience and ability to work on fast paced Scrum teams

  • Exposure to multiple, diverse technical configurations, technologies and processing environments

  • Knowledge of all components of a technical architecture

  • Experience with Business Process Modeling and Business Process Management

  • Health Industry and Company Knowledge

  • Ability to understand the long-term ("big picture") and short-term perspectives of situations

  • Ability to estimate the financial impact of technical architecture alternatives

  • Ability to apply multiple technical solutions to business problems

  • Strong technology modeling skills

  • Excellent communication, presentation and written skills

  • The ability to effectively work 3-4 projects at a time while utilizing efficient time management

  • Leadership and assertiveness: Guide, direct, and influence teams, drive risk/issue resolution, critical path management and appropriate escalations; understands the overall solution of the program and business impacts to initiatives, lead / drive collaborative solution sessions with small to large audiences

  • Utility player who can work on various teams and projects while maintaining the highest level of technology and professional standards
