Position Overview

Primary Function of Organizational Unit

Central Graphics Print Shop is responsible for a significant amount of University printing, including work that is outsourced. Its work is carried out through a central printing service location on campus.

Central Graphics operates as an independent business operation, with its two operational positions funded by receipts rather than State Funds.

The mission of Central Graphics Print Shop is to provide a full range of printing services to the University and surrounding entities, at the most economical cost and in a timely and efficient manner.

Primary Purpose of Position

The primary purpose of this position is to manage efficiently the day to day operations of the Print Shop from receiving print job orders from customers to delivering the finished print jobs to those ordering at an economical cost and in a high quality manner. This position is responsible for operating all of the equipment which includes complex photographic, Photostat, multilith equipment, two-color presses and various related printing and duplicating equipment; this position is responsible for providing supervision to the one full time temporary employee as well as student workers.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The successful candidate must possess a working knowledge of the basic principles and fundamentals of the various types of printing materials within the printing industry, etc.; knowledge of bindery; knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) Applications; ability to operate various types of printing equipment; ability to work independently with little or no supervision; to take initiative to see projects and assignments through to completion; to learn, interpret and analyze information to make necessary decisions; to exercise judgment and discretion in problem solving; to plan, prioritize and organize workflow; ability to work flexible schedules; excellent analytical and organizational skills along with written and oral communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills to interact effectively and diplomatically with a wide range of individuals in a high pressure environment.

Minimum Education/Experience

High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
