Scientist IV – Fermentation Plant Support- Decatur, IL

This is an exempt level position.
The successful candidate’s primary role will be to support both operational troubleshooting and process optimization of ADM’s ethanol and bioproducts fermentation assets through active engagement with ADM’s research and operations personnel. To accomplish this, the candidate will be expected to respond to plant support requests, proactively work with facility engineers and operators to identify root causes of plant upsets, help with establishing and communication best practices, and assist with implementation of new technology into production facilities. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to lead Research-based projects that are designed to assist with troubleshooting and optimization efforts. This position will report to Jason Hickman, Manager Ethanol and Biotechnology Research.
Provide value to ADM business units through research support of ethanol and bioproducts fermentation operations
Respond to plant support requests, including plant visits, troubleshooting plant problems, and developing recommendations for solving plant issues
Collaborate with research and plant operations to identify opportunities to add value through development and deployment of new technologies and process optimizations
Deliver technical leadership in the areas of fermentation processes and plant operations
Manage fermentation plant support projects, and communicate outcomes and recommendations to plant operations and research team members
These skills and experiences will be required or useful for the candidate
BS degree or higher with a focus on fermentation science, chemical engineering, or related field
7+ years of experience working at an operating commercial scale fermentation facility, a pilot scale facility, or in an interfacing role with operating fermentation plants
Demonstrated success in troubleshooting and optimizing fermentation plant production
Subject matter expert in fermentation process design and optimization at commercial scales
Excellent written and oral communication skills with both technical and non-technical personnel
Demonstrated ability to work with diverse, multidisciplinary teams to coordinate the transfer of bench scale knowledge through scale-up to provide value for the business
