JOB SUMMARY

Dir Medical Staff Services is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating the credentialing and medical staff functions at Baylor Scott and White Health (BSWH). Credentialing is the process of obtaining, verifying, and assessing clinician qualifications to provide patient care in BSWH hospitals, clinics, and ambulatory care facilities. Develops and establishes policies, bylaws, procedures, and practices related to credentialing and medical staff practices and monitors policy implementation, communication, and compliance. Identifies and implements credentialing improvements, such as best practices, standardized processes, technology solutions, and collaborative tools. Ensures that credentialing and medical staff processes are following all applicable legal, accreditation, standards, and regulatory requirements. Collaborates with senior leadership, chief medical officers (CMO), and hospital administration in the development of standardized and consistent credentialing and peer review processes and practices. Develops and implements improvement strategies, objectives, standards, and metrics that ensure efficient and cost-effective credentialing and medical staff processes that are aligned with BSWH business objectives.

A system Director translates and implements strategic plans and objectives for area of responsibility. Makes final decisions on operational matters and ensures achievement of objectives. Recommends policies and organizational changes for area. Plans and executes projects and initiatives that meet annual objectives. Erroneous decisions at this level tend to have negative impact on the success of the area, business unit, and possibly the overall organization's operations. Plans and directs the operations of a department or area, with responsibility for staffing, processes, budgets, and costs of the unit. Leads and advises subordinate(s) to meet schedules, resolve technical problems, and monitor performance. Has a larger, more complex organization or functional area than a manager. Often has one or more managers or supervisors reporting to the role.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE

  1. Directs system-wide credentialing and medical staff services for BSWH.

  2. Recommends and implements strategic and operational plans and priorities for medical staff services aligned to BSWH overall business objectives.

  3. Directs the credentialing and re-credentialing activities for the medical staff, advanced practice professionals and allied health professionals for assigned area.

  4. Directs the development, maintenance, and ongoing compliance of the medical staff bylaws, medical staff related state and federal regulations, regulatory and accreditation standards, and medical staff policies and procedures.

  5. Collaborates with senior leadership, medical staff, and other stakeholders to organize and standardize credentialing and medical staff functions across BSWH.

  6. Leads medical staff function improvement initiatives for assigned area, including medical staff credentialing software and privileging processes.

  7. Leads medical staff programs and support activities, including report analysis, medical staff bylaws, compliance with regulatory requirements.

  8. Directs the reporting obligations and review processes on behalf of the facility medical executive committees to the applicable boards for credentialing and privileging approvals.

  9. Leads and consults on regulatory requirements and standards as they relate to medical staff services, credentialing, privileging, and peer review.

  10. Communicates frequently with senior leadership, medical staff, and other stakeholders regarding medical staff guidelines, processes, or other medical staff coordination efforts.

KEY SUCCESS FACTORS

  1. Bachelor's degree in health care administration, business, or related field preferred.

  2. 5+ years of experience in medical staff services, centralized verification, or related area.

  3. 1+ years of experience in a leadership role.

  4. Professional certification preferred, such as Certified Professional Medical Staff Management (CPMSM) or Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS).

  5. Experience in an acute care hospital or academic medical center with multi-facility setting preferred.

  6. Experience working with medical staff bylaws, regulatory standards, credentialing procedures and accreditation standards of The Joint Commission and National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA).

  7. Ability to communicate effectively with physicians, clinicians, and senior leadership.

  8. Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills.
