University of Virginia Clinical Research Coordinator in Culpeper, Virginia
The Center for Public Health Genomics is seeking a Clinical Research Coordinator. The Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC) supports research efforts of the Principal Investigator in conducting a large screening study for the genetic risk of type 1 diabetes (T1D) among children in Virginia. The CRC will be involved in the recruitment and enrollment of research participants, informed consent process, data collection, biospecimen collection (saliva sample), monitoring and reporting overall study progress, conducting follow-up contacts with enrolled participants, and implementing daily operations of the research study. The incumbent may have opportunities to participate in future research studies. The CRC will be stationed in a healthcare clinic in Culpeper, VA and will approach potential participants and their parent/guardian in the clinic waiting room to introduce the study and recruit interested individuals. All participants are children ages 2-16 who are at the clinic for their healthcare appointment.

Successful candidates will have a Bachelor's degree in Public Health or other healthcare related field, or equivalent degree, in hand by appointment start date. One year of relevant clinical research experience is required. Experience gained as a student will be considered. Candidates are expected to have familiarity with tablets/iPads and MS Office (Word and PowerPoint). Research experience in pediatric populations is preferred. Additional preferred skills include experience in genetic research and in collection of human biospecimens.
Clinical Research Coordinators, Non-Licensed, work closely with study subjects and other research staff and are involved in most steps of the research trial process. They function under the Principal Investigator's medical license and cannot perform any tasks that by state or local law require a medical license to perform. They work independently and have the authority to adapt methods and procedures to meet the needs of the clinical trial. They are focused on the long term goals of clinical research trial and process.
