Trinity Health Registrar in Chicago, Illinois

While working with the Patient Access Management team, the registrar is charged with the responsibility of collecting patient demographic information, scheduling patient appointments, pre-registration of scheduled appointments, answering telephones calls and maintaining the highest level of customer service. The registrar must be flexible enough to work in any registration area and must be able to support policies that promote registration efficiencies and reimbursement. These duties are to be performed in a highly confidential manner, in accordance with the mission, values and behaviors of Mercy Hospital and Medical Center. Employees are further expected to provide a high quality of care, service, and kindness toward all patients, staff, physicians, volunteers and guests.

Greets all patients and families entering the hospital in a sensitive and supportive manner while demonstrating the Mercy Employee Behavior Expectations. Opens and closes respective clinic areas each shift.

Performs confidential patient/family interview to secure required demographic and insurance information. Interviews are conducted in the spirit of providing excellent customer service. Uses online tools to verify insurance eligibility and Mercy’s provider status. Documents registration information with the highest level of accuracy. Secures signatures on the appropriate organizational forms and scans per established protocol.

Answers incoming phone calls in a timely fashion pursuant to established customer service protocols. Takes detailed message and forward them appropriately.

Schedules patient appointments according to established protocols. Completes all necessary communication (telephone calls, letters) when rescheduling appointments.

Collects and accurately documents payments received from patients. Uses the sliding scale schedule to determine and collect payment for self-pay patients. Balances and submits deposits per established protocol.

Provides support and/or relief coverage as needed. Other duties as assigned.

  • High School Diploma required
  • Two years of college in general business field or technical school related to the medical field or equivalent experience required.
  • Previous customer service experience required.
  • Type 30 w.p.m. required.
