This is a full time temporary seasonal position from April 1, 2019 to December 31, 2019. Job order placed in connection with an H-2B Labor Certification. 35 Positions JOB DESCRIPTION: PLANTING SEEDLING TREES IN AREAS THAT ARE DESIGNATED AS COMMERCIAL TIMBER ZONES. AS REQUIRED, THE GROUND IS PREPARED PRIOR TO THE PLANTING BY CLEARING AN AREA OF BRUSH WITH THE USE OF THE PLANTING SHOVEL, A HOLE IS THEN DUG, AND THEN THE SEEDLING TREE IS PLANTED INTO THE HOLE. ONCE THE SEEDLING IS IN THE HOLE, THE WORKER USES THE SHOVEL TO FILL THE HOLE UP WITH THE DIRT AND ENSURES THE SEEDLING IS SECURE IN BEING PLANTED BY TAMPING THE SOIL ABOUT THE NEWLY PLANTED TREE. MEASURES ARE TAKEN TO PROTECT THE SEEDLING BY SPRAYING AND/OR PLACING NETTING/TUBING AROUND THE BASE OF THE SEEDLING. THIS WILL PROTECT THE SEEDLING FROM DESEASE AND BEING EATEN BY WILDLIFE. THE WORKER MUST BE ABLE TO CARRY THE SEEDLING TREES IN A PLANTING BAG WHICH WHEN FILLED WITH SEEDLINGS CAN WEIGHT UP TO 50 POUNDS. THE WORK IS DONE IN STEEP TERRAIN IN THE REMOTE AREAS OF NORTHWESTERN WASHINGTON AND A FEW LOCATIONS IN EASTERN WASHINGTON. ALSO WORK WILL BE PERFORMED IN WESTERN AND CENTRAL OREGON. ACCESS TO THESE REMOTE AREAS IS DONE BY TRAVELING ON UNIMPROVED ROADS THAT ARE ABANDONED LOGGING ROADS. THE SLOPE OF THE PLANTING AREAS RANGE FROM 40% - 50% IN STEEPNESS. A SMALL AMOUNT OF THINNING WILL BE CONDUCTED WITH THE USE OF A CHAINSAW. THE EMPLOYEE IS EXPECTED TO CARRY THE CHAINSAW, FUEL, AND OIL UP AND DOWN STEEP TERRAIN, 40%-50% IN SLOPE, CUTTING UNDESIRABLE AND DECEASED TREES, CLEARING BRUSH AND HAND PILING THE MATERIAL AND TO DO SO IN A SAFE MANNER. THE WEIGHT OF THE CHAINSAW, FUEL, AND OIL IS ABOUT 30 POUNDS. JOB REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to plant in an 8 hour day by the end of the 1st week 800 trees, 2nd week 900 trees,3rd week 1000 trees on 30% - 50% slope. No education required. Training provided if needed. Maintain saw, sharpen chain, maintain fluid levels, and properly clean saw. Combined weight of the saw, fuel, and oil is approximately 30lbs and must be carried up and down terrain ranging from 40% - 50% slope. Carry planting bag containing seedlings, combined weight of 50 - 60 lbs. Work will be conducted in the following counties of WA: Lewis, Chelan, Jefferson, Pacific, Ferry, Cowlitz, Stevens, Snohomish, Mason, Grays Harbor, King, Skagit, Pierce, Skamania, Wahkiakum, Kittitas, Okanogan, Pend Oreille, Clallam and in the following Oregon state counties: Clackamas, Columbia, Deschutes, Klamath, Grant, Lane, Umatilla, Lincoln, Crook, Douglas, Benton, Hood River and Tillamook Most of the work will require departing from the Kelso area. The company will assist the employee in locating housing, which is paid for by the employee, if the employ has to relocate to the Kelso, WA area. Must be available to work in each county and for the entire season. 3 months experience required conducting Pre-Commercial Tree Thinning and/or Commercial Tree Planting. The company will provide workers at no charge all tools, supplies and equipment required to perform the job, as per 20CFR655.20(k).
