Familiarity with Chinese language is not required but would be valued in a competitive candidate.

Department:Ash Center for Democratic Governance and InnovationPre-Employment Screening:Identity Schedule:9-5 Monday through Friday Job Function:General Administration Duties & Responsibilities:The Program Coordinator and Faculty Assistant supports the teaching, research, and programmatic work of the Director of the Ash Center for Democratic Governance and Innovation. The Program Coordinator is responsible for providing administrative, logistical, and financial support related to the Director’s leadership of the Ash Center and its China Programs as well as faculty work as Daewoo Professor of International Affairs at Harvard Kennedy School.

The Program Coordinator and Faculty Assistant has primary responsibility for managing and closely monitoring the faculty member’s complex and dynamic calendar including teaching commitments, regular overseas travel, speaking engagements, team and other internal meetings, and more. The Program Coordinator’s responsibilities include financial support for the faculty member and the Director of the China Programs in processing reimbursements, corporate card, and other expenses, and in troubleshooting financial issues, as well as administrative support. The Program Coordinator plans and prepares frequent domestic and international travel for the faculty member and the Director of the China Programs, to include making flight and hotel reservations, building itineraries, and preparing trip folders with all logistical travel details. The Program Coordinator occasionally drafts correspondence, orders books, replaces office equipment and supplies, prints materials, and performs other clerical duties as needed.

The Program Coordinator supports the faculty member’s teaching, working closely with him to prepare and post syllabus and other course materials, develop and maintain Canvas course page, coordinate office hours and advisee meetings, field student inquiries, prepare and track letters of reference for students, hire and coordinate teaching assistants, submit grades, and other duties as needed.

On behalf of the faculty member’s role as Director of the Ash Center, the Program Coordinator supports the Ash Center’s Executive Directors and performs other projects and duties for the Ash Center leadership as needed. The Program Coordinator, for example, helps with the regular and consistent flow of information between Center leadership and the faculty, staff, fellows, and students across the Ash Center community, Harvard Kennedy School, and beyond.
